Robert Force vs. John Hight!

We should start a pool. When will Dunn go finally just snap? lol

I've learned to tune Page out my wife caught it though
Peej! I spit Busch Light out....and busted out laughing! My kiddo came from his room, looked at the TV and said....what did Page say this time? LOL

I'll be eagerly awaiting my new laptop... :D

Does anyone know if any of our hero announcers (Reiff, Dunn, McClelland, Evans, etc) ever had problems with announcing ridiculous speeds (399?) or mispronouncing and flatout screwing up the names of the famous racers? I'm betting on "NO". Paul Page seemed to do pretty good when he did the open wheel stuff and the Hot Dog Eating Contest when he did it. I think his problem is that he has NO interest in what he does for a living. He's supposed to be an NHRA Drag Racing color commentator. That's his job. He gets paid to do it. However, a big part of the problem is that it doesn't seem to me that Paul has any interest in drag racing AT ALL. If you have a lack of interest in your job, do you really do it well? Some say yes, others say no. In this case, it's plain to me that Paul is bored with drag racing and doesn't care if he constantly makes mistakes. If he did that on Nascar broadcasts ("Here comes Jeff Earnhardt into turn 3 around Dale Gordon!") he wouldn't last ONE WEEKEND!!!

Having worked in radio and having done the Track Announcer thing, there's no way to be 100% all the time. I recall renaming the Garden City Shopping Centre to Garden $hitty Shopping Centre. It happens. :D

of course people will mess up and to be fair I believe Page does like the sport. Hearing some of his older stuff made me believe that. He also did good in his indy 500 days. I believe his talent is better suited for the marothon races like the roundy round stuff and not the fast paced sprints of drag racing.

Give us Rief or Reinhart or ideally the master D Mac

Question for the Vegas race fans. Who does the sportsman track announcing at LVMS with Bob and Alan?
For my money, besides having Bob or Alan behind the head office, i would like to see him announce. The guy is simply put the most crisp announcer i have ever heard. That is what a lead anchor should be to me. The straight guy.

I think what some people also forget is that MAC, Evans and the older announcers we we're used too, went through such a long production process that they could dub over any issues they may have had. I don't think they have that luxury when they are mixing everything in a matter of minutes like they do today. Look, Reid and Cruz had a hard time when they first started, but we gave them rope and they came around. Most of us that remember Page from his "reiff-role" at Diamond P, remember an energetic, knowlegable person, so there was an expectation. When he didn't meet it, we bashed him, but soon we gave him room to get better. Well, 3 years later and he is just as bad, if not worse!
A buddy of mine and I placed a bet that they Page would butcher a friends last name when he debuted in Pro Stock....I was counting on Page to f*ck up this time, but he said it better than I could have, without coaching! So, someone is trying to prepare him for the broadcasts, he is just not a good improv guy.

imagine having a job, and your in your 3rd year and you still mess up EVERY time you work! hes gotta be drunk on the air. get rid of page already!

Not thinking he's drinking but... as stated three years later it is w-o-r-s-e than it was in the beginning. Yes PP has been around a while and did early drag race TV but it is obvious he needs to go.
How can you expect new fans to understand when the announcer can't explain it?
I'm 57 and heard the greats.
Mike Dunn could be 1/2 of a great team....if he could just find the other great 1/2.

It would be really great if they had Dave Mac come back to do the telecast. But that's wishful thinking.

But, you gotta admit the 399mph was good for a chuckle. :D

I can't remember the guys name, but he is the regular announcer for LVMS, and you are right he is good....If I think of his name I'll post it...It seems like he is part of a family that all work there, We have done testing there during regular races and I've met the guy.... I guess it's that "old age" thing setting in!!!!!!

Like Mike Dunn never fumbles over his words??? He's always stumbling in the language department, I guess he just over comes that with his knowledge of the sport???

Not directing this directly at you Charlie, but no matter who would be in the booth, Maters would find something to complain about. I liked Marty Read, most Maters hated him when he was in the booth. Bill Stevens was a great reporter, he chose to leave. Bob Fry is such a goofball, good thing he's not in the booth.......and Cruz was always lost for words.

Honestly, Reiff does an outstanding job, stick him in the booth with Dunn.

Those two would compliment each other.

Mater's looking for something to complain about!!!!
This is tame.
Come with me to a basketball game where there is a one-sided ref (imagine that) and I can educate some on the art of complaining! :D
My wife won't even sit with me.

Only My Opinion -
But Why do we / they need Paul Page anyway...
ESPN must not have anything else for him to do????

Myself, I like Reiff, Dunn, and Gary Gerald as THE TEAM...
I typically enjoy their Sunday morning pre-race show.

Reiff doesn't get enough appreciation on here.

Larry Fulton

Alan top end and some technical pit like Steve used to do.
Dave Reiff pit and tech
Stephens/Dunn booth
Grubby's garage when he can
