Boy, that is really sad and unexpected news.

I recall the Wing was not at the Reunion in Bakersfield last year, nor at the Nitro Revival. I guess Mike's health was declining and that is why he could not attend?

I also recall Mike had cancer maybe 5 years ago or so, but I thought I heard it was skin cancer and was caught real early and he was OK. So maybe this is related to that episode.

Isn't Mike's dad - Jim Boyd (who has campaigned a nostalgia TF car for many years) - still alive?

This is a tough deal, just a year or two after Al Marcellus died....

WOW, this one caught every one off guard. I didn't know Mike as well as I knew his parents Jim and Nancy (my old neighbors). Jon you are correct, his dad Jim passed away a couple of years ago though. Prayers for Nancy, Mike's two sons and the rest of the family.

I took this photo at the Nitro Revival 3 back in 2019 as Mike and the team warmed up the car. Mousie and Willy's urn was just out of frame.

sorry to hear this,he was a cool guy. i walked up to him at famoso and asked him how he fit those balls in his fire suit .

I remember watching them run with other fuel altereds at U.S. 30 Dragstrip back in the early seventies. Not sure who was driving it back then. They sure were exciting to watch. R.I.P. Mike !!

My favorite Mike Boyd moment in recent years was at Bakersfield maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Don't recall if it was the March Meet or the Reunion. Two AA/FA's making a run. Boyd is in the left lane. Both cars do their burnouts. Boyd gets a bid sideways during his burnout in the Wing, and can't keep it in his lane. So he keeps his foot in it, crosses over into the right lane, drives BETWEEN the other AA/FA and the right side guardrail, and calmly drives it past the other altered and back into his lane. And the crowd went wild! Both cars calmly back up, launch, and make their runs. That was Mike and the Wing at their best, in true "Wild Willy Borsch" fashion! Balls of steel, indeed.
