SMITH RUNS WELL IN ATLANTA

KING, NC (May 15, 2011) – Rickie Smith and his Nitrous Injected Carolina Drilling/Coffman Tank Trucks Chevrolet Camaro went into the Atlanta Dragway with hopes of getting back the points he lost over the last few weeks.

Smith qualified himself in the number four spot as eliminations would roll around. One of only three Nitrous Injected cars in the field, Smith knew he would have to run well.

“We ran well all weekend honestly,” said Smith. “Besides a little bit of back pain we were looking good heading into round one.

After coming off a DNQ in Houston a few weeks ago, Smith was determined to get some of those lost points back.

After taking out Scott Ray first round and the legendary Jay Payne second round, Smith would advance to the semi-finals.

Having to face Ed Hoover in the next round, Smith knew he would have to step it up a notch. After all the two had been the fastest two cars the previous round. After leaving the line, Smith would have to shut off, forcing him to lose the round.

“We did pretty good. It seemed like we had a bad fuel pump though. I had to change it after second round, and then in the semi’s it just accelerated the motor too fast. We definitely proved that we are still in this thing. We gained some points back and I can’t wait for Englishtown in a few weeks.”

Smith gained some ground in the points, as he moved up a spot into fourth, only two rounds behind second place. The NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge will run again June 2-5 in Englishtown, New Jersey.
