I took his comment to mean a replica R/C, not die cast.

My guess would be that for as long as there was even rumor of the sponsorship, it was in the works before that. I would think it would be likely that Traxxas has had a product in development for as least that long. Who knows, maybe they were developing a licensed product, and that turned into the sponsorship. For pretty much everything in racing that they sponsor, they sell a matching R/C model.

And here it is: Traxxas - Funny Car (#6907) - Overview | traxxas.com

will there be a 7th different TF winner in the next race (i hope so)

FC fan vote between yesterday's finalists with repeat winner

If there isn't a 7th winner, do the top 2 fan picks get in?

woops, i meant next race, not next two races.
if there is not a 7th different winner @ BIR, position 7 filled by
highest points, non-winner which rite now is d. kalitta, followed by
langdon 63 pts. back, then only the 8th by fan vote.

So as of today we have the following:

Top Fuel:

Massey
Brown
Lucas
Torrence
Grubnic
Schumacher

Funny Car:

J. Force
Hight
Neff
Capps
Beckman
Gray
Arend

Very good deal!

Glad to see Traxxas step up in a big way and pour so much money into the sport. Between sponsoring Courtney's car, bringing back shootout races, and the increased exposure on TV, they're really placing an emphasis on drag racing.

Thanks, Traxxas!

X2....NHRA Scored Bigtime landing them! Don't forget the Traxxas Fanpack they offer at Indy, if you buy a Reserved seat for Sat-Mon they give you a $20 per day discount!

OK....so it's not Hot Wheels of the 70's....the entry point is stratospheric compared to a dollar toy, but I see it having some positive influence on the younger market....as in religion, get 'em while they're young should be the motto. (not an offcolor joke, an indoctrination joke)
Unlike Hot Wheels, I don't suspect Shell Gas Stations will give a free car to everyone that fills their tank, but all it takes is one of the 40 yr old kids on the block to break out their thousand dollar toy, and the kids will be into drag racing. I mean, they have timing lights!! That's a design team that thought of everything.

As to where to have it? I see most everyone has their own ideas, but I'm with the folks who say keep it the way it was. US Nats for F/C and World Finals for T/F....based on qualifying average from previous year, and held the day before elims....first round equals one of your qualifying runs for the race.

Just nice to have a sponsor show so much confidence in the future of Drag Racing....well done Traxxas

I just talked to someone at Gateway today, and asked them If the circle track stands had been removed, and they told me that they are still there. If you don't like the parking at Gateway just buy the orange west parking when you buy your tickets. It's worth It!

The Orange parking ticket is the way to go at Gateway. I went to St Louis this weekend to play. I drove by the track. They have a billboard on the highway advertising the return of NHRA in September. From what I saw the stands are still standing? I was driving the truck in five lanes of traffic. I was trying to keep my eyes on the road. I could be wrong.

Everybody has tracks they like and dislike all for different reasons. Racers see the tracks from a different point of view than spectators. It's all a matter of one's opinion. Personally I go to Gateway because its close to me. When I need a fix of burnt rubber its always been there, but its not in the list of tracks I look foward to going too.

I don't get it either. I'm greatful for the Traxxas for their investment. But why so complex?? I like the old system way better. jmo

In the old system, drivers accumulated points from Indy to Indy for FC, Finals to Finals for TF. Because they only are accumulating points from the beginning of this year, they went to this system, hopefully they will return to the old system after this year. I don't like the campaigning and ballot stuffing to vote someone in.

Just clarifying the old system was Top 8 in qualifying points. Not Winston points.

I prefer a winner's only system, then most runner up's, and so on to fill the field.

Agree, it should be the top 8 in points period. Simple.

I agree in principle but I think the goals behind having a vote are two-fold. One is to have the fans feel involved and the second is to have people go to a website to vote. More web views = more ad revenue!!

It should reflect how NASCAR used to do The Winston All-Star race, when the field is full, the most recent winner makes it. At this point Jeff Arend was the 7th winner this year. 8th place is the fan vote. Courtney Force just won making her the 8th different winner, but the other 7 were already locked. She should have bumped the oldest from the field, which would have been Winternationals winner John Force.

It's a fun race ie no points, so I don't care too much how they pick them. Just glad they are having a special race.

I was at the first Bud shoot out as a kid, the first Mr Gasket for PS and now my daughter will be at the first Traxxas shootout.

Well stated. I concur with you 100percent!!! If it's a special race there's nothing special about just taking the Top 8 in points. You could be Top 8 with no wins and someone outside could have 2, for instance.
