While most people are beginning to wind down for the holiday period, Brisbane based professional Drag Racing team Reed Racing will be turning up the wick in Sydney for the International Top Fuel, Top Alcohol and Pro Stock Challenge this weekend (8th-9th December).
Upon returning from the last round of the Championship the husband and wife Top Alcohol team of Steven and Debbie Reed have stripped and totally rebuilt the engines on both Steven’s Funny Car and Debbie’s Dragster in preparation for the meet.
And as the halfway point for the Australian Championship, both know the importance of a good result at the event to go into the Christmas break with a solid platform to launch into the back of the season off in January next year.
“I’m currently sitting in 4th place in the National Championship just 10 points behind reigning champion Wayne Newby so the season hasn’t been going too badly for me,” Steven Reed said.
“It would be great to be able to bridge that gap and head into the back half of the season inside the top 3 though, so we will be really ramping things up and banking on a good points haul in Sydney.”
“It is sure to be a tough weekend of racing for the fans with everyone jostling for positions as the table begins to sort out who the real Title contenders are.”
As the only female competitor in the category, Debbie Reed is equally as keen for a good result in the last Championship race for the 2007 calendar year.
With some new innovations being tested on her 3500 horsepower Top Alcohol Dragster in recent rounds she has found it tough to break into the top 8, but is confident the team can bring together a good package that will see her really taking it up to the guys.
“The competition is so tough in Top Alcohol right now you have to be continually developing new ideas to keep in touch with the leaders in the field,” Debbie Reed said.
“But this also takes valuable track time to get it fine tuned and sorted out, sometimes the tiniest adjustments can be the difference between getting down the track in 5 seconds and rattling the tyres.”
“Being back in Sydney though on a track that I know very well and we have a lot of data for I am sure that we will have a good setup together that hopefully should see both Steven and myself in the top 8.”
