The Brett Stevens Racing team showed why they are a dominating force in the ANDRA Championship Drag Racing series with an incredible display of record setting performances over the weekend at the Western Sydney International Dragway.
Completing at the Summernationals, the team treated the big crowd that attended the event with numerous benchmark performances with the highlight being Kath Stevens World Record setting performance in her 3000 horsepower Jack Daniel’s Racing Ford Falcon Top Doorslammer.
Kath created history on Saturday (16th June), which was also her 31st birthday, by becoming the first ever women to run a 5 second quarter mile pass in a ‘doored’ car when she laid down a stunning 5.96 Elapsed Time.
“This is amazing! We have been working and developing our Brett Stevens Racing built Ford Falcon Top Doorslammers now for around 18 months and it has all finally paid off,” Kath Stevens said.
“This is the ultimate birthday present as well; we will be celebrating hard tonight!”
“I would like to thank my husband Brett for giving me this chance, my friends and family, and to all of my sponsors that have supported and shown faith in me over the years.”
“There were a lot of them here tonight as well so it was great to be able to put on a show like this for them.”
Other stand out performances from the team included Brett Stevens running the fastest Top Alcohol Funny Car pass in the Southern Hemisphere in the Kitten Car Care Products Funny Car at 263.15 mph (423.50 kph), as well as the second quickest Elapsed Time at 5.55 seconds.
Adding to this was Brett Stevens personal best mph in his Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Doorslammer (243.90 mph), Steve Packman running a personal best ET and mph in the SP Racing Falcon Top Doorslammer (6.19 seconds at 239.91 mph), and Pete Cochrane on the S&S Powered Pro Stock Buell also running a personal best pass (7.13 seconds).
“This weekend has just been awesome for the team with some incredible individual performances all around,” Brett Stevens said.
“We had all of out cars and bikes running on song most of the event and were able to maintain our position on top of three Group 1 Championship ladders in the ANDRA Championship series (Top Alcohol – Brett Stevens, Top Bike – Troy McLean and Pro Stock Bike – Pete Cochrane).”
“But the night really belonged to Kath and I couldn’t be happier for her, as hard as it may be to believe I think it is even better her running a 5 than me.”
“It has topped off a fantastic weekend for the team and I would also like to pay a special mention to my fantastic crew for their efforts in helping make all this possible, we couldn’t have done it without you.”
Kath Stevens is in illustrious drag racing company. In addition to being the world’s first woman to break the five second barrier, she is also just the eighth driver worldwide to have done so, with only three other Australians in the elite club.
