OK before NHRA changed the rule to 1000' for TF & FC they (FC & TF cars) were running an ET at 1000' however the crew chief were NOT tuning to run 1000' they were tuning to run 1320' and what ever the 1000' ET was.. well it didn't matter that much.... as they were looking to run 1320'

Once the rule was changed to 1000' I imagine the crew chiefs don't care about 1320' or 1/4 mile as they only had to make the cars run to the 1000' so they could make changes to run STRONG to 1000' & not worry about the last 320'

My question is now the TF cars are running (app. 3.80 - 3.85) to the 1000' ... Anyone know what ET they were running to the 1000' BEFORE the rule went into effect...

My guess when they were running the "FULL 1/4 mile" the 1000' ET's were slower ?? (I don't know) it a guess on my part...because they (crew chiefs) had the make the motor last to 1320' now they can set a shorter fuse because they only need 1000'

Am I making any sense... Has the 1000' ET improved since the new rule went into effect ? Anyone have some 1000' ET times BEFORE they (NHRA) changed from 1/4 mile to 1000'??

John, a 4.07 in FC was really close to a 4.75 in the 1/4, but it sure seemed we saw more Quick 1000' times when the cars were running 1320! Remember all those 4.60's we were seeing? That translates to 3.99-4.02 at 1000' and we're not seeing those kind of numbers anymore! Seems anything 4.0 anything is considered fast anymore!

Someone posted a time slip from Eddie Hill he ran (1000' in 3.83x) (not sure what year it was..

Tony Schumacher went 3.75 on the 4.42 in 06 at Pomona. The round before when he ran, I think it was a .48, his 1000 ft et was 3.81.

I think I remember reading FCs would be in the 3's at 1000 ft. on a strong 1/4 mile run, and we have a best of 4.00 so far, with 4.0s being the really quick runs. Also, I believe the cars are heavier than a couple of years ago too.

None of the 1000 times so far have been better then what he have seen on 1/4 runs in the past. Remember though, the cars weigh more now, and I am pretty positive that is the reason why, espically in funny car.

Robert Hight went 3.95 to 1000' and went 273 to the 1/8 mile on his 4.63 pass, both are quickest ever. A funny car going 4.63 stll seems crazy fast to me.

Tony Schumacher went 3.759 on his 4.428 pass.
Doug Kalitta went 3.758 on his 4.420 pass.
Both cars were 3.00 to 1000 feet.

Interesting fact though. The quickest ever 1/8 mile pass was 10 years ago!!! Gary Scelzi in 1999 went 2.991  on a 4.48 pass, but the motor was wounded before the lights and only went 312.

That Hight ran still amazes me to this day. As for Gary's 2.991 :eek:
