Not a racing application, but we had a cryo company offer to treat our cutter blades for free, claiming what I thought were outrageous improvements in wear. Luckily had them do one, saw no improvement in wear, and the blade wouldn't hold an edge when we tried to have it sharpened.
Cryogenic treating can have some undesirable side effects. I'll be very interested to see if anyone has had success with treating racing parts.

Funny, the company I used to work for had a large tool & die dept. (3 shifts, about 12 guys on each shift) and when they started treating some of their more expensive bits the life went up by a big amount (2 to 3 times) compared to untreated. A machinist in that dept. also built karting engines on the side (his engines won season championships in every class they were run several seasons in a row) and immediately he noticed that wear on cyl. walls was cut in half and bearings and crankshafts looked much better when they were pulled. A (the?) top motorcycle shop out in Portland, OR (many chamionships and records in several classes) has also had great results with cryo treatment.

On a side note, it's also being used by some in the audio community. I treated all of my interconnects and speaker cables a few years ago and was very impressed with the results. BTW, they also threw in a treated BIC disposable razor that had been treated just for the hell of it. I used the damn thing for nearly a month and a half before it finally got dull enough that I tossed it. Normally I can only get about a weeks use out of one.

I've tried using it some on our top fuel harley stuff, but I'm not convinced its doing much. I got turned on to it from some fellow racers who swore by it, but my results have been nothing spectacular. I've used it on clutch plates, rods and even pistons. I was going to have some engine cases treated, but never got to it. I know lots of guys really like the process, but I just havn't noticed the difference.
