Question About NHRA Betting (1 Viewer)

The betting houses do not want a level playing field. They want a level betting field. They'll adjust the odds until they get it.
They absolutely want a level playing field in terms of the integrity of the game/match/race, whichever the case may be. Without it, they stand to lose large quantities of money as well as a significant portion of their customer base. And yes, they will adjust the betting lines as money comes in, but that has no bearing ensuring integrity of competitors.

It doesn't surprise me in the least that NHRA would stoop so low and have legal betting. Guess they will do anything to make more money.
Not sure how they make more money outside of creating more interest in the sport. Name a sport that you can’t bet on? I guess some would rather have the sport slow die than become more popular.

Before you plunk your money down betting on drag racing, you have to ask yourselves one thing….

How did I do on Pick the Winners?

Yeah, put your money back in your wallet…..
I love to bet and will bet on a racer or maybe two every week in each pro class. I’m not betting more than $5 per bet. Not going to get rich or be in the poor house. Gives me a rooting interest each week and makes race day a little more exciting. For example, I have $3 on Blake Alexander this week. $3 to win $175. It’s great to see Blake win any race. If I can win some money on his good fortune even better.

Now that we can bet on NHRA in states where it is legal, how long does anyone think it will be before a driver or team is accused of throwing a race because of gambling?
All team personal have to take a course on gambling and sign something with regards to that, I am waiting for our team owner to send my link. All the basic information I have at this time.

The real betting on the drag races was in the stands at Englishtown during Summernationals pro stock competition.
I remember all the guys from NYC and NJ handing cash back and forth and the shouts of “ C’mon Bob Glidden! Give him a drivin lesson!”

And the best part is, thanks to modern technology, you can be there too!

You must have sat in the educated section if they knew drivers' names!

The section we sat in was guys saying "I got five on the red car." That $5 bill probably went back and forth 20 times!

Those NYC and NJ dudes loved betting on pro stock! And now that I think of it, it was only pro stock!

Reminds me of one of my favorite betting stories. I think the first year I went to a national event by myself (I was 16 or so) I was sitting below a group of guys that were betting on every single pair in qualifying. After a few pairs I joined in. They were picking cars based on color. Early on in Top Fuel most of the guys were picking the white car, I ended up taking the black car in the pair which happened to be Cory Mac. The white car........was Arley Langlo. Made my lunch money on that one.

I don’t know if it was the educated section, but if you look at the upper right corner behind them there is the only tree over one section of the pit side grandstands. That’s where you would find my white butt during the Summers.

If a competitor is caught betting on the races (or advising someone to do it) it will work out as well for them as it did for Pete Rose.

Alan

Didn't seem to go so bad for Shohei Ohtani. Oh, I meant for his "interpreter". 🙄

Rose at least never threw a game, which for me was the distinction between him and the 1919 White Sox.

And of course the NBA turning a blind eye to Michael Jordan for a long time.

Atco also had a gambling section.

We just don’t know, Pete pled out to a lifetime ban, so who knows what embarrassing details were kept quiet that it led to him taking that ban.

But who is going to catch them MLB, NFL, NBA, ect all have their own security force to watch for things like gambling on the games. They watch the lines to see how much is bet, where the bet was placed and so on. I am pretty sure NHRA does not have that kind of security force.
You have to enter SSN on gambling sites. If you win big it makes sure you pay the taxes. For the sports leagues it also shows if their players/coaches/ect are betting on their sport.

I would assume the same step will happen with this. Just depends on how deep it goes, drivers, crew chief, crew, owner? For the sake on integrity of the sport none of them should be allowed to bet.

Players from various sports have had suspensions and bans for betting. The punishment depends on what they did.
In the NFL,if you bet on NFL and it's a year min ban.
However if you are at a facility and place a bet on a different sports, that's 4-6 games. You can bet on other sports at home, just not at team facility. Doesn't make sense

NBA player got banned for life for two suspicious bets he made during this last season.

MLB has seen a few players get suspended.

Where a lot of the gambling probes come from is the Sportsbooks themselves. I will use the NBA and Javontay Porter. He was in with some bettors. He told them to be a large amount on him to play poorly. So they bet 10k on Porter getting under 3.5 rebounds. Porter then left the game after 3 minutes with an illness. The bettor won the money. However it raised a red flag. Rarely is there a big money bet on a marginal player. An investigation was launched and eventually led to Porter getting caught and banned
The Sportsbooks require a lot of information when signing up for an account. As part of this being agreement, NHRA has given the Sportsbook information on all the racers, team members and NHRA employees. So if Joe Blow works on the safety safari, signs up with a Sportsbook, bets on races,

Here's a link to an extensive post by Jason Galvin about what NHRA employees, racers, crew members, members of the media, and others had to go through.

The NHRA doesn’t have anybody quite like a Ohtani or Jordan… those guys could get away with murder.
