When Erica was asked if team orders she denied it. Of course, he volunteered to throw it

WOW - What a bad time for Troy's car to "Malfunction".
They have identical reaction time and coughlin Jr. has the lead until just past half track. Coughlin Jr.'s car went silent and Enders drove around for the win.

There is a rule against throwing a race. In the past Graham Light checked Racepak data to check on questionable races. I wonder if this is still done, now that he has retired ?

It's one thing to sandbag qualifying as many times team do a half pass, test new parts or tuneup or skip runs so you're not trying to win. Elims is a whole different thing. To me, throwing a race is unconscionable. I predicted "something" would happen to Troy's car since he had 2 hundreds on her in round 1 and 2. Hopefully karma will deny Erica the championship. And I hope she has to deal with a lot of heat the next two weeks. Glad to see Dallas come up big.

Does anyone really care any more what Tony P. says? Sand bagging like it or not, happens in every form of team motorsports. I don't like it either but its just part of the deal these days. Got a kick out of Erica ferociously denying it though in her interview. Anyone complain about Tatum shutting it down with no obvious issues during his race with Steve? Thats countdown racing for ya!

Idk. Decorated former racer turned announcer trashing you and your team to thousands of viewers? Yeah. The team isn't happy about that and I'm sure the sponsors involved might not be either, unless they're of the all publicity is good publicity mind frame. And I don't think Tony said anything wrong. He'll hear about it from the Elite camp tho. Sponsors likely remain mum.

Don't think Torrence needed or wanted Tatum help. They've never raced that way before

Can’t complain about Elite’s strategy or laying down, greg’s Bunch would be doing it too (or anybody). And it’s impossible to police. I know NHRA wants the races decided at or near Pomona and everyone has an opinion about the countdown format, but there would be much less need for sandbagging with just one change. I think event winners should get more points for the win than just the round points. Why not double points for a win? Isn’t that the object?

So here's my 2 cents on the issue. I believe qualifying strategy to try and line up against a certain opponent in the first round is exciting and legit, and totally different then diving. Two entirely different scenarios. Regarding Tatum, I agree with Darrell, even Steve and his dad have never pulled that, no matter what was on the line. As far as Elite, well Troy said what was going to happen before it did. When they left together, I was happy for a few seconds and thought, it's going to be a race! But then Troy shut it off and I was pretty disappointed. But when Erica was interviewed and so strongly denied it, it was actually cringe worthy.

the PS final was great. good wait. stage. both great r.t.'s. both stellar runs. happy for dallas........positioning in qualifying tactic is hard to do and can appreciate when achieved.
if the championship check at end of year was a significant value, i would understand the laying down practice, but for what they run for, i do not.

I don't care that Coughlin threw it, Everybody does it, just don't insult our intelligence by telling us he broke. Jegs, official sponsor of the next USA Olympic dive team. LOL

I'm tired of it happening. We've all kind of glossed over the Smith camp a few races ago having team bikes not show up to race Matt, which allowed him to win and take over the lead. I suppose that's at least more honest then diving. We've seen nitro cars do it many times of the years. Also it's not always the teams choice. Sponsors are known to get involved and make the call as well.

Troy offered to, doesn't mean he was told to.

My only pause on Erica is why go for such a great light and risk a red if the race was already won? If she had gone red was the plan for Troy to take out a cone then? Seems a bit risky to chance it like that.

A few races back in the countdown...Billy had a better car than Steve and then has his worst light of his career against his son...I don't know if I would say that they haven't raced that way before. They can all deny it up the wazoo...but we aren't stupid.

You're very wrong on this. First, there has never been an alleged instance of Greg or Jason laying down in eliminations. Second, Kyle Koretsky beat Greg in the final at Carlotte 2, a Countdown race. He valued going for his first win over laying down for Greg. Troy valued laying down for Erica above going for his first win. Hope he has to wait a lot longer for that first win. Will be interesting to see if Elite pulls the same tactics at Pomona now that they will really be under the microscope. Again, I'm OK with tactics in qualifying as you're not trying to win. Throwing a race in elims is a different matter. Im agine if near the end of the NFL regular season a team intentionally missed a field goal to get a better opponent in the playoffs...

If not for the Countdown, this thread wouldn't likely exist. To me, the issues raised here about sandbagging, etc, are directly related to the position the countdown puts people in. Had the points not be reset Enders probably would be long out of it by now (certainly not in a position to make these goings-on even occurring).

Yet one more reason the countdown doesn't work and doesn't and hasn't in any way fulfilled the notion of helping small teams stay in it. With respect to the main topic of this thread, it's made things clearly worse.

Dallas Glenn is a future great.

Dallas Glenn is a "current" great. With all respect to the other candidates, he's gotta be the rookie of the year.

Just think about what Pro Stock would be like if Tanner Gray, Dave Connolly, Kurt Johnson, Allen Johnson, and even V. Gaines were still in it today, with Dallas and Kyle and others charging hard. Man that would be sweet!

I've always thought winners should get additional points more than round wins. Maybe 30 instead of 20
