Pro Mod on Nitro ?

They ran at Super Chevy shows awhile ago, does anybody run it now?

Nitro Coupes is what they were called. I believe they ran on 30% nitro. Looks like they're still around: NITRO COUPE

I think that's an old article of the racers that used to be part of the series. It's not the Auto Zone Super Chevy Show anymore. I think it was stated a few guys ran a bit more than the 30% allowed by the rules going after that first ever doorslammer 5 second pass. Randy Merick ran 6.10 way back in 1999 at Joliet and Bill Kuhlmann ran 6.001 at Columbus in 2000. However there were a rash of huge fires, Kuhlmann's being the biggest at Richmond that fall, that made the series think twice about the idea. It's one thing to be in a funny car and pop out the roof hatch, but being in a pro mod style door car and experiencing a funny car type fire was not good. I think even with the assistance of nitro, none of those cars ever did run a 5 second pass, even after the barrier had already been broken. The last Super Chevy I went to that they had in my area was 2009 and the pro mods only ran 1/8th mile like the ADRL series.

ADRL Pro Extreme rules allow for up to 50% nitro in an injected or roots-blown motor. Not sure how many, if any, run a percentage of nitromethane.

30% wasn't enough to make them sound good or smell good.

The NHRA used its "eminent domain" where they somehow control everything at their sanctioned tracks 24/7/30/365 and stopped the use of nitro in the ADRL cars at NHRA tracks.
Escape hatches, fire hose window ports, sealed interiors, fresh air systems could make the cars "safer".
The real problem is the low percentages. 50 5 cars are fire prone. See one of Pappadeas' tapes of Ricky Ruiz' fire at an Englishtown Wednesday night match race. I was there, it was horrible. 50%.
Solid rear suspension cars with the racers deciding the percentage would be the way. It will never happen because of NHRA.

and there wasn't even that much Header flames, besides the little bit from Richard Langson's Texas Ranger Funny Car.

Really, on video you couldn't tell they had any Load whatsoever...
