This also applies to the male vs female issue. Men and women compete on an equal footing at the drags at all ages because it doesn't require much physical stamina. Being in great physical shape certainly doesn't hurt, but is not required like it is for the roundy-round auto sports where the races last much longer than a drag race.

he's been interviewed several times including last week in Phoenix about Robert retiring. He seemed a little tired to me yesterday.

I just got back home from being in Pomona all weekend. I am glad I went and had a good time, but whew the wind was blowing cold and hard at all of us in the grandstands!
By California standards, it was a tough event to sit thru weather-wise.
I had plenty of bleacher areas to myself. I sat in various different areas: sections 3, 16, 17, 22, top end, and in different rows.
1 thing was constant: some MF had to stand up in front of me even though no one else stood up.
Not gonna lie, Alan's announcing was sorely missed. The MTX sound system sucks and combined with the low-energy, soft-spoken announcing, it was tough to hear much and it was a downer.
Some good racing all weekend. It was fun to watch. Lots of cool moments.

Being old myself, I’m happy when old guys do well. But I’m actually more excited to have some competitive young drivers in FC - Prock, D Wilk, Bode and Alexander.

check out the 'weekend rewind' on nhra.com. the beginning of video shows slo-mo shots in and around beginning of race.
there is one shot where camera is almost on the pavement filming clay millican and team pushing car, turning 90 degrees from lanes onto track.
IMO it's a badass shot. would love to see it used more. would be killer footage as the show is starting with narration and/or music in background introducing
the show......although my preference is always just go straight into nitro motor firing and rolling thru burnout, before a work is said

That is a very well-done video, gets the heart pumping!
Not a complaint here but rather some suggestions. I do miss, as I'm sure many of us do, things that were shown in past broadcasts that aren't used much anymore. In-car videos have been scaled back to the point they're almost nonexistent. Tech filler's been scaled back; pit reporters used to team up with crew chiefs and explain nitro clutches, superchargers, PS suspension setups, all manners of interesting tech and that's been either been cut back or we have to listen to TP try to explain it. I recall the days of "crank it up" where the announcers muted themselves for about two minutes, quality audio was in place and it took the viewer through the warmups, burnouts, backups, staging, the pass itself and the shutdown (NASCAR still does this at least once curing every race). People at home liked it, even those of us quite familiar with the sounds which are as much of the drag racing experience as the sights.
We've beaten the poor-audio horse to death but it needs a few more licks in my opinion. We've all watched countless YT videos filmed by amateurs that in some instances feature audio almost as realistic as actually being there. If they can do it there's absolutely no reason FS1 can't - or won't.
Most of us can't attend all these events in person and I'm still more than thankful for at least being able to have television coverage of them at every race. Kind of hard to bitch about something that's part of a satellite television service I'm already paying for. But they can do better and it won't cost anyone an arm and a leg. The sport deserves it.

hate to say it, but what the sport deserves, or is lacking, is a larger audience. i hope this new venture with octagon has positive results.
when the nfl brags about a great female audience, it's not because the gals like stories about the latest safest helmets, or how many laces are in a football.
they gravitate towards human interest stories, so the jersey they wear to the bar on sunday, represents their steadfast connection to a team and/or it's players.
the diehard nfl fan who cares about the latest safest helmet is the least of concern to the minds (adv't/marketing) trying to grow the game.

Hi Mike. I know the family of the crew member you are referring to pretty well. He is a former student of the elementary school I’m a principal at. I didn’t have him as a student, but I did have his younger brother. They are a very nice family and live just down the street from my school. I believe his Dad used to race in the E85 series out this way. They mainly race at Great Lakes. We’ve even seen them out at US 41 when we have raced our altered. I’m friends with him and his Dad on Facebook and they have had some really nice posts going back to when he was hired by RWR to the start of the season and now winning the Winter Nats. His Dad shared in one of the posts that it had been his son’s dream to work on a pro team in the NHRA and he has made it happen. Very cool and very happy for them!

so happy for clay and the entire RWR drag racing team. hope their transition to a 2-car team goes smoothly, with proper funding in place,
