Pomona FRIDAY at 5;45EST on ESPN3

While I'll believe it when I see it, Friday's listings show NHRA at 5:45 EST.

Seems early but, just a "heads-up".

Pretty sure they'll run 2 Pro qualifying rounds on Friday - It'll be interesting to see if they can keep on schedule.

This is Q2 for the PROs. Why does that seem odd to you Jim at this time of year? This is a typical schedule for both Pomona races. Not a lot of daylight to work with. At the Finals, why would they race the Pro's in the cold and dark when championships are at stake? Especially when they will race in the warmer daytime on Sunday.

A lot of factors into this schedule and not a lot of wiggle room ...
  • Its November in Pomona. Not summertime in Vegas so any real night racing is out of the question
  • Sunset is 4:48 pm in Pomona. Gets dark early
  • Scheduled secure time is 6pm. With it being dark so early, temps fall quickly. Forecast temp at 6pm in Pomona is around 60. By 7pm curfew it will be in the 50's.
  • Plus there is the legal stuff ... (noise ordinance)

"Local ordinances require that race vehicle engines not be operated prior to 8:00 AM Thursday thru Saturday, or 9:30 AM Sunday. Also, race vehicle engines may not be operated after 7:00 PM Thursday thru Saturday, or after 6:00 PM Sunday."

Certainly there could be delays in the daily schedule that could adjust the session time a little ... but not likely. If anything, sportsman classes would be juggled around. I would bet you that it will be on pretty close to 5:45. Plus its ESPN3 so its live whenever it starts. No DVR conflicts.
