I'm sure that the productions will get better as the season goes along, these were just things that stood out to me.
I thought TPed did a really good job on Sunday, much better than Friday and Saturday, he's not going to be an issue and will only get better. I also agree, Jamie and Bruno along with John Kernan make and excellent pit reporting team.
The score boards on the screen definitely need some work. Half of the races I had no clue who won or what their times were. I would like to see them show each driver's (correct) name in their lane, when they launch show reaction times, then at the finish line show a win light, both e.t. and mph and keep the reaction times up there. Also, keep them up there through the replays until the next pair, that way viewers can digest the numbers.
The first two rounds are crammed through, no burnouts or anything. They showed the Semi Finals then filled the time with highlights of last year, etc. I would have much rather them show more pit action, do an interview with Densham and show the aftermath of his crash, interview James Campbell and introduce him to the viewers, show the 50 years of Funny Cars celebration, basically fill the time with the actual event.
If they're going to keep that starting line stripe, it should only go green in the lane with the winning reaction time, not both. It's useless as it is.
I'm torn on the sponsors across the track. I get that it's beneficial to getting the sponsors names out there, but it's a bit confusing. I thought that it would be the sponsor of each particular car on the track. There was a Peak Camaro racing a DHL Camry, yet they were showing Mopar and Oberta on the track, way overkill.
I liked the winners interviews, that was great.

jesse, that makes sense that only the finals were live.....suppose semis could have been too?......i don't think it is humanly
possible to run 4 rounds of 3 classes in 2.5 hours. i guess i wasn't exactly sure what '17 races live' meant.....i get it now.
2.5 - 3 hour shows with live finals, maybe even live semi's and finals, taped first and second rounds......it sucks to not see burnouts,
but i guess you want the feeling that the audience is seeing every race from every round.

The live show starts with the Semi Finals, through the Finals. Like I stated above, I'd rather them show more pit thrashing or live interviews over the fluff pieces and highlights from last year. Keep the viewers at the track while live.

Confirmed, at least in Australia. I was at work while the event was happening (keeping an eye on live results) but had to watch the broadcast through a somewhat legally dubious streaming service.
I know many others from down here were in the same boat , we have nothing and nothing on the horizon except the promise of purchasing the live stream package by the time Gainesville rolls around, or waiting until the company they have contracted to negotiate the international rights comes up with a solution. It sucks for us, and we are some of the most hardcore drag racers you will find anywhere.

Better get used to the tap dance between the semis and the finals. It's going to be built into all the "live" shows. Let's hope they'll become a bit more creative for that 50 or so minutes.
You might think maybe they could show the finals of the sportmen catagories, but don't hold your breath. Why? Because the pro ranks series (as is the show) is backed by Mello Yello. They're not going to give free TV exposure to the Lucas backed sportsmen. Nothing personal toward the sportsmen, just a business thing. The sportsmen will have their own show.
I thouht overall it was decent. As I watched it, I thought the faster pace will please many on here who thought the previous iteration was too drawn out. I believe the "winner" indicator was glitchy. It was there at the beginng, disappeared for a while, then reappeared.
I though that when Tony calmed down, and didn't try to act all "pumped up" he did fine. He'll only get better.

Actually, I think it was the NRHA that nixed that, and the fans in the stands applauded that move, iffen I remember correctly.

That clip of the 1996 Winternationals was awesome. Great racing, and as far as this old-school fan is concerned, a much more entertaining show for the fans at the track, and at home. This is the style of broadcast that needs to come back, newer and more complicated is not necessarily "better". A 5.05 run at 302 mph in the 1320' was fun to watch, even if it's not the mind-numbing performances we see today.

One last thing. Get rid of the blazers! It's a drag the race for crying out loud, not a dinner date.
That '96 clip is cool. Couple observations: The burnouts were badass, really created a lot of drama setting up the race. And, looks like a lot of the fans stayed for the finals, as compared to this past weekend. I think the 50 or so minutes before live finals needs to be used to really get everyone amped up. I enjoy seeing the thrash in the pits and talking with the CCs and drivers as they prepare for a final, as opposed to filler that kind of cools things off. This will be a work in progress, I think it will evolve throughout the season.
