I know we've seen the Energy Drink wars, and the Military Division wars etc.. But to Steve's point, it is unrealistic to try to "clean" the area of competition getting some air time. Were there O'Reilly people in the ESPN booth directing what video to setup for the show?

Do they have a say in what commercials ESPN airs during the show?

Another thing that goes on is a company using a photo of a racer in their promotion, and photoshopping competitors stickers off the vehicle.

I got an oil company advertisement in the mail and it shows two funny cars at night in the lights with header fire. Clearly one of the cars was the CSK Blue team Monte Carlo, but they photoshopped in a phoney sponsor name.

Ya seen one parts store ya seen em all. To me the best one is the closest one.

Our NAPA has the most knowledgeable counter guys. And, I can still by a brake light switch for my Merc there.

All the rest of their BS is just childish. Bunch of whiners

Why is this race any different than the 5 that O,Reilly has already sponsered ? Is it their home base ? Lets just race.

Years ago Miller beer did the same thing at Lowes Motor Speedway to Bud/Busch .... Miller did not like the PR support truck that Bud sent to the events for the pole awards and the Busch Series at the time. they did not like that it could be seen from the stands and tv also... LMS would not let it in the gates..... NASCAR fixed that one too....

another great one was Pepsi sponsor in a event and Coke had a promotion with the Muppets on Cup Coke drivers cars.... and Pepsi had the track stop the muppets at the gate and not allow them in fearing that some one on tv or the stands would see them....lol... Since ESPN wasn't allowed to show footage from inside the gate at the time...it made for great tv on ESPN of the muppets across the street holding signs up "Tickets wanted"....lol (think it was Kansas ior Chicago Speedway not sure...)

Remember when Larry Dixon won the Bud Shootout and they showed him riding back up the track in the Bud wagon pulled by the Clydesdales?
That was a little bit awkward.

But I remember Ron Capps a couple of years ago in St. Louis giving thanks to O'reilly for sponsoring the race and then shilling for NAPA which I think shows class by the the driver and his sponsor.

To pretend the competition isn't out there too is just silly.

These are great examples of what "should" happen. If you have a better product, or at least think you have a better product then it shouldn't matter who else is there.

Remember some years ago, when Fox Sports decided to photoshop all sponsor's logos off of the hoods during the driver's intros if the company hadn't bought any commercial time during the broadcast?

And how about the time that Jeff Gordon won a race sponsored by Coke. When he climbed out of his car in victory lane and saw all the coke product packages they'd put on the roof of the car, he immediately swept them off of the roof before the interview. Coke, understandably, wasn't happy about that. But, I guess I could see Gordon's side too, being heavily sponsored by Pepsi. The new "monday morning" rule, also known as the "Smokey Unick Rule." was that no one could move any race sponsor signage off of the roof in victory lane. The next time Gordon won a Coke sponsored race, he did the usual burnout on the front straightaway, and promptly parked the car right there. Victory lane had to come to him. Without the packaging.

It's all a competition, with everyone fighting to gain the advantage, the most visibility for your company, and the least visibility, if any, for your competitor.

always thought the jeg's team did a good job of parking their rig.
didn't see it this year, but in year's past seem to remember the yellow
jeg's truck/awning behing staging lanes @ seattle.....clearly visible
in many TV shots.
this year @ BIR they got the premiere spot and were clearly visible
to entire spectator bleachers.
does the early bird get the worm? (first to arrive?)
or do you pay extra to park in most visible location?

I asked someone about this a year or two ago, and from what I was told, NHRA decides every pro pit location. They try to put Force farther back in the pack (away from the stands) to get the crowds deeper into the pits, try to put the teams together by class to make calls for each round easier, to put teams that don't get along apart, and so on. There's someone with a map for each event, guiding them into each spot.

that certainly makes sense.
but back to the jegs location @ BIR this year.....last year it was the
summit group in the same location with the 'free advertising'.

also have found it interesting that as sponsor laden as JFR is, they choose
to race without additional 'hospitality' pit space.
