The King Cobra Rod & Custom Club hosted the Top Ends most successful Drag Racing event ever last Saturday (15th July) night when around 10,000 fans crammed into the Hidden Valley Drag Strip for the 2006 NT Drag Racing Titles.
The huge crowd witnessed some spectacular racing as well as mishaps with Top Doorslammer star Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens in his Jack Daniel’s Racing Falcon Top Doorslammer featuring at both ends of the spectrum.
Despite setting the fastest speed of the night at 219.51 mph (353 kph), as well as recording the quickest time of the event at 6.67 seconds on the very slippery track, Stevens night took a turn for the worse on his final run of the night when his 3000 horsepower beast lost traction during the burnout and tagged the wall.
Luckily all damage was only superficial and Stevens was able to return to finish off the event in style with his trademark burnout show in his Jack Daniel’s Racing Burnout Ute.
“The massive crowd was amazing, they were on their feet all night long cheering every pass by every car,” Stevens said.
“The guys up here put in a lot of effort to make the NT Titles happen and it showed in the success of the event. Drag Racing is definitely alive and strong in the Northern Territory.”
“Unfortunately for me I had some problems on my last run when my car turned right on the slippery surface and bumped the wall but the damage isn’t bad.”
“It was a disappointing way to finish such a great event but that’s racing.”
<img src="http://gallery.nitromater.com/files/6/5/Packman_11.jpg" alt="Packman_11" align="right"borders="0"/>Steve Packman in the Glenfords Racing Top Doorslammer also found the running tough, skating around the track to lose his first 2 races to Stevens.
However on his final pass of the night he was able to post a deserved win for the Glenfords Racing team when he beat Darwin local Bronte Henning to the finish line.
“It was an extremely busy night keeping all of our cars, including the Burnout Ute and the Teams tow cars out on track racing,” Packman said.
“After the first run Brett (Stevens) damaged his motor which meant a complete engine change as well so it was all hands on deck all night long.”
“I had a few wild rides trying to get my car to hook up struggling a bit on the slippery track, but I think the crowd really like it.”
“It was also good to get a win for the Team in my last race against Bronte (Henning) after Brett was unable to complete his run.”
