CHARLOTTE, NC (May 1, 2011) – Rickie Smith and his Nitrous Injected Chevy Camaro headed to Houston, Texas second in the points in the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge. Smith has been fighting back pain for the last few weeks, and was hesitant to get to the racetrack.

The Carolina Drilling/Coffman Tank Trucks Chevy started off the weekend plagued by some bad luck. Not getting down the track in either session on Friday due to some electrical issues, Smith would be down to one pass on Saturday to get in the show.

“We figured out that the nitrous switch had shorted out,” said Smith. “Both runs on Friday were affected by this. We found the electrical problem Friday night and we were ready for Saturday.”

As Saturday rolled around, the lanes would play a huge factor in qualifying. Smith would dial his Camaro in and become the second fastest car to get down the track in the right lane, however it proved to not be enough in order to qualify for the race.

“Honestly the track was junk. The left lane was good, but the right lane was just terrible. No one could make anything of it. We did all we could do to get down it, but it just wasn’t enough. This definitely hurt us in the point standings a lot, but we will be back in Atlanta; fighting to get our points back.”

The next race on the NHRA Get Screened America Pro Mod Challenge tour will be in Atlanta, Georgia in two weeks, May 13-15.
