Not a good day for Force Racing

if you kill the ignition before the traps the chutes wont come out and you can coast to the last turnoff if you have enough speed. And there's only two turn off at the grove. The first one is about 100 yards past the scoreboards in the left lane but its pretty tight because it turns backtrack and full of emergency vehicles. There used to be a turn off further down off the right lane where the old scales used to be but its permanently closed off with churned up dirt behind the wall probably where they excavated when they had the water problem Thursday. The Leahy device has taken a lot of driver by surprise. Arthur Gallant had mentioned that the device almost works too well by taking the driver out of the equation in the event the Leahy device should somehow not function. We watched semis and Nicholson's TAD powered way past the finish line with a stuck throttle till the engine blew up. I was amazed he got it stopped as I was sure he was heading for the sand. That was some great "on the brakes" driving job.

With all the controversy ensuing in this thread I didn't want the fact that JFR went 0 for 3 in Round 1 getting lost !!! :D :D :D As for the other stuff included in this thread...."I'm not complaining about the amount of ice cubes in my SoCo on the rocks when I didn't pay for it"

I'm glad pointing that out makes your day.

That Nicholson deal sure was scaaaaaary Al. Watched on ESPN3 also and I was thinking holy crap he is a long way down there and the throttle was still wide open then it started to bounce. I actually looked away for a second because I thought it was gonna be bad.

Well, now that we know exactly what happened and how things were handled, does anyone feel any different?

Not trying to make excuses for Force, but he was probably thinking about what the h*ll just happened, how his luck could be so rotten and wondering if his Championship hopes had just flown the coop. Not knowing exactly what did happen, he did what professional racers instinctively do - move to the side of the track, out of the groove, once he realized the engine had shut off.

In retrospect, he should have taken the first turnoff while still under power. No doubt his plan was to take the turnoff where the public road crosses the strip, but he forgot completely about the auto shutoff, which worked exactly as designed.

Force apologized to Creasy personally and on television. Accept his apology and move on.

Yes, John Force did apologize for the delay he caused, at least I saw the part where he spoke to Gary Gerrold about the screwup, but as I recall, he couldn't even recall who he was racing and called him "that kid" or something. I'm sure his mouth was ahead of his brain, and I also agree he had to be disgusted and in manic mode having realized he probably just gave up the lead in the points. It was just the oddest thing I've seen happen in a long long time.

Bernie there's a lot of respect in my post. Taken a shot and feelin' good when I can. Why? Cause we all know they will be back in Vegas! :(

I guess I just fall under the mindset that if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. I don't bash Hagan when he wins. I don't go into Hagan threads and laugh when he loses. I just pass them by.

It's not hard to do.

Steve, Bernie... ya know there ain't a swingin'.... opps, and two ladies, that I'm not happy for when they win.... including the Brothers Ped... Yes, I have my favs... Hagan ran the Table over the weekend... The Virginian Has a Great future ahead of him...

There's only one racer I've meet that just rubbed me the wrong way, and he lives just west of Fallbrook...

Here's the kicker... I am a Fan of JFR... But not really a Fan of Papa John, but then, I've never cottoned to salesmen. I've seen your line card, you don't have to beat me over the head with it... in fact, that just may have the opposite effect.

I just think it's all part of being a fan with passion for the best division in all of motorsports..FC! Nothing moves my meter like FC (execption to Naomi Watts and Laura Linney(ahh)) in all of racing. I respect all the owners and drivers and admit Force is the man with everything he's done. But it's all good. I was probably one of the few non-Force fans defending Hight's 10th-spot Title last year!! I mean that guy "got over" on the entire field and spotted them a million points. It was their own fault they couldn't keep the AAA Ford Mustang down! I try to stay even keel but I'll always enjoy being a fan when it comes to W's and L's.

Nothing wrong with having passion, as a fan. I'm right there with you! That's why I get a little riled when it seems people are out to just bash JFR with no reason other than they can. (not saying that's you)

I look forward to every race day, especially during the countdown. Every race is so huge and everything is on the line with every run. Of course, we all get a little heated during this time of year in the race season so maybe I should not take it too personally.

I just try to keep my posts and cheering/booing civil and not crack on the teams that I'm not fans of.

If the teams that I'm a fan of win, I'll cheer and post about the big win. If they lose, I take my lumps and keep quiet. That's how I approach it.

Good grief, I'm as big an anti-Force person as anybody but, I can't understand why people are getting their undies all wadded up over what happened Sunday.
He certainly wasn't trying to hang Worsham out to dry. He's got a fight on his hands for the championship.
Did NHRA cut him a little extra slack? Maybe. But, the guy is a 14x champ. He didn't get that way on luck alone.
However, with that being said, GO HAGAN!

DC jr, with the win over a broken Force, not Worsham... and Dale gave Del a damn good race in round two...

as to why John went down the track then chutes out, well if you watch the video of what happened, the NHRA official was telling him to drive on down instead of getting out, when he crossed the finishline the manditory NHRA box released the chutes and shut the car off... John had no choices in what happened. I work for another team out here and as much as I like to beat the competition, this all just plain sucked for that team, thats not the way you want to win or lose.
