many of those that turned racing into promoting their primary business did. Force is the only one I can think of that did fine just racing for the most part.

And Snake, Mongoose, Kenny Bernstien, Cruz Pedregon, Warren Johnson, Bob Glidden, just to name a few.
Now, Antron Brown and Ron Capps are doing it.
If it's your hobby, you can spend a lot of money on it, if it's your only business then you work at it like your full time job.
