NHRA re: The Incident (1 Viewer)

you can't even find nhra tv nielsen ratings listed on racer.com anymore.........WTF cares about an nhra shoving match at pomona.......the answer is NOBODY.
this thread is the same as the article linked to the other racing website. nobody gives 2 chits about nhra drag racing, but as soon as somebody has a skirmish, all the pundits come out
with opinion on how to handle it......pundits who never gave 2 chits about nhra drag racing in the first place. i would be surprised if nhra does anything about this, and honestly
i hope they don't.......if you want to bitch, then show up with nitro and lets race. otherwise shut up.

Here it is Thrusday and still nothing from NHRA, how long does it take to review something that they had on clear video? They are playing the fans, and im afraid they are gonna lose this one, my parents have been lifelong NHRA fans and they called and cancelled their Fox Sports 1 they were paying extra for just to watch NHRA, and will not be renewing their NHRA membership they have had since I was a little kid. They also attend 3 to 5 races a year and said they will not attend one ever again. They said they are done and wont support the NHRA in any way. Regardless of stance on this, the fans are speaking and they are not happy at all nothing has been done, and the fans are what pay the bills, through ticket sales, merchandise purchases, supporting the sponsors, etc

The people who care are the thousands of fans who have expressed their opinion on social media, NHRAs facebook page, and many other outlets. Your response makes it sound like the fans opinion doesnt matter and unless you can afford to show up with a fuel car we should shut up? Maybe im just reading it wrong

the autoweek article is out of line......to paraphrase......'the nhra has a conduct policy and steve broke it'.....'they (nhra) better do something quick or they will be inviting this behavior all the time'
please. go cry me a river. in the heat of battle things happen. sometimes not the way you'd like. you recover. you make amends. you learn. you move on.
i will say this. the torrence family did not get to where they are by being pushed around. somebody's got to bark the orders, and somebody's got to follow them.
they are not followers.

While I do not want to see NHRA management turn a blind eye when conversations get out of hand at the track, I also do not want to see the sport be emasculated just because of an open-handed push.
Geez, these are two young men. They just got out of their 10,000 horsepower cars. I'm sure the adrenaline dump was awesome. Plus, their testosterone levels were probably flowing as well.
OK, they had some words and one shoved the other. As long as it wasn't with a closed fist, or with an instrument of any kind, no real harm was done. Who here would really file an assault charge after being pushed like that? I'm sure the local law enforcement has more important things to worry about than a couple of professional race drivers throwing a hissy fit after a run.
Just take them into the back room and make sure all parties know such behavior will not be tolerated.
Everybody should get one chance to screw up. Torrence used his. He has apologized. I bet it won't happen again. But, if it does, then it will be time to drop the hammer and consider a fine and/or suspension.
In the meantime, how long until the Winternationals?

For the thid time in this thread I will say what Steve did was absolutely wrong and it should not have happened.. But based on my own personal experience, anyone who thinks that an highly inappropriate comment (if that was the case as we do not and probably will never know the conversation) in a face to face situation cannot trigger a physical response lives in a far different world than I do. From some of this conversation, one would be led to believe that Cam was left on the ground, unconscious. My significant other has smacked me harder than that for making an inappropriate comment. As others have also suggested, assess a fine (and why not give it to charity) and get on with it. I think Steve has learned a lesson that will be with him for a long time to come and I think Cam will be just fine.

I’d agree if two guys got into it a little bit, not a big deal. But he clearly suckered him and was the aggressor. If the lesson is that it has no consequences, then be sure to retaliate and get your due.

Just curious, how many of you wanted Capps to be thrown out of the race, or suspended, or docked points, or tarred and feathered when he smacked Bazemore a few years ago?

I wonder how many people really watched the whole video? I watched it on my DVR 4 times. I don't think Steve was mad at the deep stage as much as waiting too long, heating up the clutch, etc. Then Steve went over to this relatively inexperienced driver and expressed how he felt. Then they shook hands, Steve stepped back and Cameron laughed at him and who knows what he said. What he DID say set Steve off he gave Cameron an open handed shove. Maybe he shouldn't have but in the heat of that important days competition, every one at the top was really on edge. I have seen much worse in the 55+ years since I started racing. Steve may be strong but he works out and like the saying goes "Don't mess with Texans" I seriously hope NHRA does no more than a fine. It will alienate a lot of old time racers, but maybe not the snowflakes. I am not saying I condone fighting like we have seen on NASCAR, but with all the cameras now, everyone has to behave. Seems like I remember when Force tangled with Bazemore when he came into Force's pit and accused JF of cheating. No cameras around that day! Just an old guys observations so don't be too hard on me! ;-)

Man, some of you guys really need to grow some thicker skin around here. As if there aren't dust ups in ALL sports from time to time. You act as if Steve has single handedly ruined NHRA drag racing for ever. Go grab your cuddle puppy, drink some hot coco and get over it. To literally go as far as canceling FS1, not re-upping NHRA memberships, not attending any more races, etc. because of a little dust up between two grown men at a competition is beyond hysterical. You all bitch about how vanilla and corporate NHRA drivers have become and now there is a bit of drama and emotion and you all loose your bloody minds. This is the problem with America today. Rant over!

I agree, NHRA needs more “personality“, a little dust up doesn’t hurt anything. The part I didn’t like was that C.F. didn’t get a chance to hit back.

He has done this before- but lets get on with it -if he does again definitely out for a few races -fine him to appease the mob-I am one that knows this happened before but not in the PRO ranks

Steve had the option to go into stage, but he was hanging back wanting to stage second. Wouldn’t be surprised if a few drivers hold back from staging next season to get an advantage on the tree.

I wonder how many fans cancelled their TV subscriptions, stopped drinking a certain beer or burned their souvenirs when "Tony Stewart killed that kid on purpose" (quotes added to show I don't agree with that characterization).... that was slightly more controversial than a punch....

The back of his trailer was parked right across from the back of Steve's trailer...he could have retaliated in any number of different ways if he had wanted to.

It is now Friday, NHRA's responce

ZERO, NADA, ZILCH.

IMO NHRA is going to delay until it cools down and then do something minimal if anything. A small fine or loss of points at first race.

I am genuinely surprised at all of the continued pearl-clutching by all of the grown men around here.

To me this is almost a zero. A mild curiosity. To use a baseball analogy, this is a brush back pitch because a guy is crowding the plate. When watching on TV, I laughed when it happened. It seemed kind of ridiculous. I never dreamed there would be this cry and hue for NHRA to take their pound of flesh from the competitor.

Most people on this board constantly lament how boring the drivers are and how they have no personality and how there are no rivalries. And then as soon as anything remotely interesting happens, out come the torches and pitchforks immediately. Every. Single. Time. I don't get it.

The big issue with people is that if it was Cameron that done it he would have been escorted off the property and anyone with any common sense knows thats true! Same is true if it was a sportsman racer or any other low budget pro racer. Its the double standard that has people so upset, and lack of action when we all know immediate action would have been taken had it been someone else.
