I have no idea if this is the first time the Topeka race has been scheduled on Memorial Weekend or not. But back in the 90's the last Spring Dallas race was on this weekend, and the Attendance was SOO bad NHRA dropped the Spring race! If this is Topeka's last year for the Natl's, the Poor attendance won't help its case!

The weather is keeping people away ... It has been crap all weekend and they are in a rain delay right now. When the weather man say 90% chance of rain, people don't show up.

THE original date of Topeka(started in 1989) was in Spetember.... Later they had 2 RACES the Early in July and the September race.... I attended the LAST July race in 1996 and they WAS FLING(for that time peroid)
Looked like to me on the TV the stands had a GOOD crowd........... Several of my racing buddies and gals WENT to watch the races on various days.
THE RACERS WANT the track to be IN the 2016 shedule... NOW its up to the Topeka City people to go ahead and keep this race a happening......... that is all
Clipper
BTW they DID finish the race as Topeka has KILLER lighting(as bright as daylight) and a long shut down area

I just watched the qualifying show from last night and there was a decent crowd yesterday especially considering the weather.

Other than 2007 when it was run on the first weekend in June, Topeka has hosted a NHRA national event at Heartland Park on the last weekend or next to last weekend in May since 2001.

They need to build a new facility if racing is to continue at Topeka. The viewing is terrible and there's a road course dividing the stands on the left lane side. That's hideous. I've never been a fan of multiple use facilities. Either it's a dragstrip or it isn't. The pro pits being so distant doesn't help matters either. This facility sucks. Worst in the NHRA. The only thing going for it is, the track seems to be good with the numbers we've seen this weekend.

It's a long walk from spectators side to pits, hopefully the new owner will put tunnel near finish line before they repave track. As far as car counts I thought it was fairly good for how the economy is right know.
Seating distance from track, you just have to live with it or don't go because when this track was built insurance started putting restrictions on distance, even though this track was opened in 1989 it's actually a fairly new facility. Road course actually runs on the drag strip so distance from stands probably would not be much different.

It's about the worst track for spectators I've ever experienced. Once was all I needed to learn never to return.
