Has anyone heard of any nitro cars that are planning to run any of the IHRA races this summer? With such a small pool of cars I don’t see how they can pull this odd.

Some of the races are on NHRA off weekends so it’s possible that some touring cars make an appearance or two. Top Fuel could do ok with a lot of Midwest teams. Funny Car could be a different story where most of the independent teams are out west. One thing that could hurt IHRA is the late announcement of their races. Most teams had a budget and plotted which NHRA races they were going to attend.

It will be interesting to see how the IHRA races pan out. The first race is in about 3 weeks and unless I'm missing it not a whole lot of info has been made public.I see tickets are available but I don't a basic schedule of how the event will flow or team announcements stating they will be there. I'm considering attending so if you can point me in the right direction for more information I'd appreciate it.

i Dont think the IHRA should attempt to campaign 2 Nitro classes. In this Current environment, there does not seem to be enough support. They should consider doing 1 of 3 things. 1)Top Fuel Dragster only, 2)Funny Car Only or 3) wait for it! . . . Combine the two classes. I thought i read once, that the primary reason Top Fuel is faster than FC' is because of the weight. Try and implement some rules to make the 2 types of car as equal in performance as possible. This will reduce the odds that they can fill a 8 or 16 car field with good payouts

its seems like some form of an 8 car field could be the winning formula.
if, and a BIG if, IHRA can deliver on these purses, and somehow manage to run TF and FC in some form,
i wonder how many owners will drag one of each to these events?

If you recall "back in the day" when IHRA ran fuelers as the norm, there were cars that pretty much just raced IHRA and seldom both (Bobby Lagana, Doug Herbert, John Carry (sp?) Clay Millican) all were regulars plus many part-time racers. So I see this as an opportunity to grow the fuel classes, giving the lessor funded teams a place to learn and develop their program. Just my $.02

I'd like to see 8 car fields in both TF and FC and then have the winners of each meet in a nitro final. Give the FC .2 head start.
