NHRA Finally Has A Different Legend

Gary Beck is the legend at Seattle. Picked by the track just like all the others:D

I knew someone was gonna say that. Picked by the track or NHRA who knows for sure, that's not the point. The point is whoever picks has not done a great job. But yea nice joke.

There is something very wrong about that NHRA story.

Okay, Gary Beck is the race legend, I'll buy that.

"Other legends who will be recognized during the weekend are Jerry “the King” Ruth, Dick Kalivoda, Herman Petersen, Frank Hall, Jim Green, Gordie Bonin, Rob Bruins, Wayne King, Hugh Tucker, Hank Johnson, Bucky Austin, Randy Bradford, and Twig Zeigler."

The two biggest names in NHRA Drag Racing history from the Northwest are not even on the list.

Where's Ed the Ace? Where's Pat Austin? What's up with that???

Even Whit Bazemore. He lives in Oregon, no telling if he ever comes back. Is he a legend? Now he's never won a title, but he's a legendary competitor. You can't deny Whit his place in NHRA for being a great part of funny car racing.

Folks, I wonder if some of these people who aren't getting "picked" have actually decliced a request?

In the on-again/off-again "Where Are They Now" series in ND, some retired racers have noted they never watch the races, and never go to the tracks, preferring instead to "move on" with life.

Nobody dominated fuel racing in the northwest like Jerry Ruth, 7 time division champion in funny car and top fuel simultaneously (back when that meant something) 73 NHRA World Champion, 77 Winternationals 81 Mile High Nationals. Lost to Beck in in the final (smoked the tires) at Indy after setting low et every round and the record. (GB's first Indy win was a tenth off Ruth's pace)
Yes Beck was good , Ace was great, but there was only one "King" and he reigned for twenty years.
"Long Live the King"
