NHRA CONSIDERING CANADIAN TRACK AS PART OF THE WESTERN SWING?

Like Bob D mentioned….how many drivers and crew members would be turned away at the border to Canada due to criminal records? Just keeping it real and in perspective.

The border crossing reminds me of something that happened to the late Larry Sullivan when he was covering a race in Canada for Drag Race Central. Larry had prostate cancer and had had radioactive seeds implanted to treat the disease. He was taking his motorhome across the border and the customs agent came inside to look around. As he walked by Larry, his Geiger counter went off. That set off a search of the motorhome until customs was convinced Larry was not trying to smuggle radioactive material.

looking at it on Google Map paved parking looks pretty slim. Could be a 3 pro class event at best. Sure wouldn't be much room for non pro classes.

It was pretty tight. I believe there were 11 dragsters and 10 funny cars.

The one negative about racing in Canada is the hassle crossing the border, I don't know what it's like now but back in 2006 two of Gilby's crew weren't allowed into Canada because of past arrests. Plus you had to have a complete inventory of everything in the trailer which is checked when leaving to make sure you didn't sell anything to avoid the duty & taxes. If you want to talk about low car counts hold a race in Canada and see how many teams show up.

Back in my Drag Boat days that ended in the early 80's we ran once a yr. in Londen, ON. It became such a hassle crossing in Detroit, that Molsen the rase sponsor
ended up putting up a bond for the racers so we could get our boats across the border. And that's when probably 80% of the boats where towed on an open trailer pulled by a pickup truck or cube van. So, we didn't have a lot of inventory.

Al, as a proud American. I'm glad to call you a true friend and other Canadian's I have met at the drags in Canada and the USA
the last 54 years I've been going to drags, hell the first time at drags in Canada was at the old Mission Raceway 1972.

from Al when he took this picture...just bitchin! And if I have to tell you about the nitro flopper

Funny how so many don’t realize that you better start dealing with politics or else the politics will deal with you. Most likely in ways you won’t like. This is something I have understood since I was 10 years old. Why the hell can’t so many of you grown adults figure that out? While this may not be the “BEST” place to discuss politics, you trying to shut down conversations is totalitarian and shouldn’t be tolerated either.

Discussing politics solves nothing. Allan is right. It's just aimless bias. I grew up at a race track frequented by people from all walks of life. Black, white, hispanic etc. Rich or poor. It didn't matter. Politics and even religion to an extent seemed non existent. It was one common love. I thought that was universal in drag racing up until a few years ago. Maybe it still is and I'm showing my bias but I've had somebody come up to me at the track and try to scold me over tweets that I liked and social media posts that I made that were deemed "left leaning".

We all lean one way or even go full tilt one way, away from the drag strip. I always looked at it as an escape from all the consumption outside of those gates. Wish we could revive that.

Mission is too small for an NHRA National Event. Having said that, here was our final run at Mission in 1999 against Pat Austin. Pat blew up at about 1,000 and shredded his red ProMax F/C body. It was very scary, but he was ok. Both of us actually blew up and slowed but Pat's was unreal. Video courtesy of Larry Pfister.

Just got back from a bear hunt in Manitoba. Getting across the border and back could be problematic. The price of everything is very high in Canada. Think you would have very low car counts.
