if you are going to release him 2 races from the end while in 2nd place, then that is fine. but if the offer was there to help the team do everything
it could to win the championship, yet you release him, then don't call it a gut punch.
You do not think that Tommy Delago is capable of successfully tuning the car for the final two racss? He's pretty damn good and has a ton of experience both with Mike and tuning for multiple teams on his own.

Much respect for the Scag team and Justin’s RTs, but I’m a Doug fan and never bet against A. Johnson. One of the top moments I remember was the blood draining from Doug’s face when Tony made ‘the run’ to take the championship. Go Doug!
Watching Doug win his first championship after fighting for like 26 years was one of the greatest drag racing championship moments that I’ve personally seen. It was right up there with John winning in 2010 after it looked like he was done in 2007. Magical moments.

nowhere in my post did i mention T.D. and his capabilities. my comments were in regard to justin's response.
i think most or all of alexis' half a dozen or so FC wins were tuned by T.D.; for sure he is more than capable.

He (TD) won 2011 FC championship with Hagan

I love watching and rooting for home town teams like Zizzo Racing and crew, the Creasy family, Chris Karamesines and Luigi Novelli at our home track now WWT. Also can't forget Tim and Daniel Wilkerson.

Agreed, it's awesome stuff! Lots more names beyond those mentioned...
TS you look very happy makin' "lightning in a can" and you're extremely good at it too!

Yeah I knew I was leaving a lot of names out. Their were a lot of FC's in the 60's and 70's when I was growing up, also close by in N. Indiana and S. Wisconson. Our closest track was Oswego, IL.

Oswego was our home track, I just drove past there a few weeks ago.
Tony, I assume it's now a subdivision or office/industrial park? That is where I got hooked for life. Heard, felt, smelled and saw my first nitro car, had my back to the starting line and jumped 2 ft into the air on the burnout! I was in the 8th or 9th grade, 71 or 72 my best friend talked his brother into letting us ride in the back seat of a 66 Chevelle SS 396 4-speed with him and his buddy to Oswego. Their were 2 fuel FC's there for exhibition going to blow the cobwebs out and try to figure out who they were. What a Sunday, the Chevelle was a true street-strip car, ran mid 12's and pulled the front wheels. During his run to the finals I looked at Paul and said if it blows up how are we going to get home? He just shrugged but we rode back to LaGrange with a trophy.

Good times for sure. My Dad started taking me there in 1974, I was all of 4 years old at the time. Looking back on it, that place was on the decline and it would close in 1979. I do remember seeing a UDRA supercharged funny car race there, had to of been 1976 or 1977. For any big meets, we would always travel to U.S. 30, Rockford & Greatlakes. We started going to the US Nationals in 1980. The first two nitro funny cars I ever saw was at US 30, or super fuel funny cars as US 30 called them. The Chi-town Hustler vs. Cliff Brown in the Chicago Kid, March of 1975. I'll never forget that day and I too was hooked for life.

wonder why that plot of land has never been developed?
It became a tree nursery for many years after the drag strip closed. It's taken a while for urban sprawl to make its way there. There's subdivision on the end of the north end of the property and Orchard Rd and the city of Oswego has really expanded over the last 15-20 years. The city of Yorkville is now expanding as well. I suppose at some point the drag strip will disappear completely.

I see that you also refer to Byron as Rockford. Back in the 70's we ran there a lot in the BB/FC car. Along with US30, Union Grove and Cordova. It seems today nobody calls it Rockford. In fact, we were based in Toledo, OH but ran more around Chicago then we did in Ohio.
