Hi to everyone. I am sure that this has been asked and answered previously but appreciate any input or directions/links to previous discussions.
What are the differences between the "Ford" Hemi's and the standard Hemi based engines as used in the NHRA. Thanks!
Other than the Name on the Valve cover I doubt any! If there is I haven't heard about it!
I found
SPEEDtv.com Forums | THE BOSS 500 NITRO MOTOR IS A SCAM
to be interesting. They talk about some of the changes they have made, but I've seen a picture of a cylinder head off of Tasca's engine and it sure looks HEMI based to me.
spec'd.... Jfr wanted to change the valve angles, port height and shape. But, honestly, the fuel engine today is as related to the elephant as man is to ape. The whole cam height to pushrod, to rocker to valve spring is a collection of binding points... There was a long list of new ideas jfr and ford wanted to make, and nhra said no to all. All they got was a beefier bottom end.

i miss my whale and donovan 417
Why would NHRA allow them to come up with another motor, how much would that end up costing these teams in the long run?
Joe, They are machining their own blocks and heads. It would not have cost any more than they are spending now.

...And Dodge still calls there new motor a "hemi" too, have you seen pics of the heads?
WJ called it a twisted wedge.........................And Dodge still calls there new motor a "hemi" too, have you seen pics of the heads?
Thanks for the reply's fellas. I wasn't trying to start a Mopar versus Ford thread. I realize the hemi based fuel engines are far removed from the production versions. I was only curious as to what extent the Ford hemi was different from the traditional hemi. Doesn't sound like there is any real difference except badging. So as I was telling my buddy at work it was indeed a Mopar sweep of the Mopar nationals last weekend except for the bikes.
LOL....I guess that's one conclusion you could draw from this conversation...
