New Naming Rights to IRP

While I most certainly salute and applaud Forrest for opening his wallet WIDE in support of drag racing, count me as another "it'll always be IRP" guy.

So what do we now call it-LOR? LRP? Can I please just keep calling it IRP?

It will always be IRP...just like Charlotte Motor Speedway is consistently called its traditional name. It'll never be Lowes Motor Speedway to me. It's "Charlotte", and it's "Indy"...

That said....thanks for the buckos Mr Lucas. I mean it sincerely...I have your additive in my tank every single mile, and it truly made a difference in power and economy. Nothin' but taillights! Does this make me a minority owner in IRP...I mean Lucas Oil Park? ;)

Charlotte was called Lowe's? when did that happen? And why name a race track after a movie theater chain?:D

NHRA sucks more money out of the pool, leaving poor 'ol Jeff Burk searching for a new sponsor for his nostalgia funny car series.

nothing hallowed about anything anymore. Remember everything has to change and evolve with the times.

Term it how you want, Jon, but I would have to respectfully disagree. The vast majority of racers who haven't won The Big Go have gone on record saying they would trade in all of their Wally's for just one from Indy. I'm sure there are some that equally value wins at their home tracks, but collectively they don't say that about any other facility like they do Indy. Simply too much history there for any other facility (other than maybe Pomona) to compare to even in all of the "modern-ness" of some of the super tracks.

Yeah, she's been getting run-down over the years, but maybe some of that Lucas money can change some of that. ;)

Yes that is your opinion. Where were you in the 1/4 mile discussion ? Time moves on and things can whether we want them to or not. Everything changes whether want it to or not.

You'll have to forgive me. Like many Hoosiers, I grew up around the place and have been fortunate enough as a driver to visit the winner's circle there on a couple of different occasions (not the U.S. Nationals, unfortunately), so it's a special place.

As for the 1/4-mile discussion, it's pointless. That topic, from the standpoint of why they went to 1,000ft, to why we're stuck there and the fact that we probably should have never went there in the first place, runs much deeper than what has ever been discussed on here. And in order to rectify those topics and everything in between would require the stepping-on of toes and the sacrifice of personal feelings, which would have happened by now if anybody had enough sack to do it.

I just would like to thank the Lucas family again. I would also like to echo the sentiments of an earlier poster that hopefully the NHRA takes some of that money and invests it back into IRP ... the facility isn't what it should be.

Was the ORielly deal just a few years or what happened? Normally naming rights are for more than just a few years.
