Excitement is building towards Tasmania’s biggest Drag Racing event of the year when it hosts the Venarchie Contracting Tassie Nats 2007 this weekend (17th-18th March), with Australian Group 1 racers Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens in his Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Doorslammer and Steve Packman in the Glenfords Racing Top Doorslammer headlining the event.
Held over two days at the Motors AC Delco Dragway just outside of Launceston, Saturday will see the Dag Racing action on the quarter mile strip while Sunday will have Burnouts, Power Skids, Go To Whoa, Show and Shine as well as various other events.
Organisers have also confirmed that this year the two fastest local cars will have the chance to race door handle to door handle with some of the sports elite by taking on Stevens and Packman in their stunning 3000 horsepower BF Falcon Doorslammers on Saturday night.
“It has been quite a few years since I have come down to Tassie to race and it is the first time the new Falcon Top Doorslammers have ever come over so I am really excited about getting them out on the track here,” Stevens said.
“I believe the Doorslammer record for the track currently stands at 6.44 seconds, so if the conditions are right we will be looking at giving that a nudge as well.”
“I really love coming to events like these, without the pressure of Championship racing I can just let loose and have some fun entertaining a crowd that normally doesn’t get to see this level of racing.”
“The sight, smell and sound of two methanol fuelled, 3000 horsepower sedans battling it out over the quarter mile is an experience not to be missed.”
Stevens is one of the most exciting personalities in Australian Drag Racing and operates the largest motorsport team in the country. He is also the only person in the world to compete in three professional Group 1 Drag Racing brackets simultaneously (Top Doorslammer, Top Bike and Top Alcohol).
Some of his recent Drag Racing accomplishments include winning the 2004 Australian Top Doorslammer and the 2005 Australian Top Bike Championships, member of the Australian Motorcycle Hall of Fame, holder of the quickest Australian Harley record with quarter mile run of 6.4 seconds, as well as various other records and titles.
Packman is the Brett Steven Racing team Crew Chief as well as driver of the Glenfords Racing Top Doorslammer. He is also the leading rookie in the 2006-2007 Australian Top Doorslammer Championship.
As well as witnessing Stevens and Packman running down the quarter mile in 6 seconds at speeds of over 380 km/h, Stevens will also be making special guest appearances on Friday night at the Launceston Country Club Casino (6:30pm – 7:30pm) and Olde Tudor Motor Inn (8:30pm – 9:30pm).
