I was in my office catching up with some work with the TV on listening to NASCAR qualifying from Texas today. The 00 car had one of the worst crashes I have ever witnessed and I thought there was no way he was walking away from the crash. The driver jumped out of the car like nothing happened. All the work NASCAR as done with safety is working with keeping their drivers safe. I will try to find a video link of the crash.

WOW!!! Thank God he walked away from that. That Texas track is a spooky place. A few years ago, my buddy Tony Roper was killed there in a Nascar Truck Race. A big tip of the hat to all those who work to make Racing as safe as possible.

WOW !! .......That was one hell of a hit to the wall ! Looks like the safer barrier and the new style car have shown their worth in that accident ! Glad to see he walked away :)

Holy sh$t! That is unreal. It looks like these's some sort of smoke coming out from under the rear of the car just before the rearend steps out. I don't know if it's oil, water, oil-dry or what, but it happens immediately before the rear starts to come around on him. Hard to believe he walked away from that.

Makes Dale Sr's crash look like a love tap. To bad it took his life to change to the soft walls.

That's the first thing that crossed my mind, Harry. All the nasty carnage we've seen in a wreck..this crash..Petty tearing the fence up barrel rolling down the chute..Rusty barrel rolling @ Daytona, etc.

But this crash and the head-on he survived really does make Dale's look like a love tap..wow.

I cannot believe that! Holy $hit! That has got to be the worse crash I have ever seen. He hit that wall pretty much full blast. Its amazing nothing is wrong with him.

That was scary. Even knowing before I viewed it that he was okay....it was scary. The safety equipment is definitely doing its job. At slow motion, it still looks like full speed. A harder crash I don't believe you will ever see.

Kudos to NASCAR - the COT is a tank! If you take a look at the car after it stopped, the damage is contained to a very small area at front and rear. Amazing!

Wow .......

Edit: After watching the SPEED replay last night of the crash, he made a very bad mistake by turning that car uphill once it got loose. That could have killed him years ago without all the safety features they have now.

Looked like he cut the right rear down...and the new seats and the HANS device paid off with all those barrel-rolls.

I was there all weekend, We were numb when it happened and when he got out and raised His arm the place went CRAZY!!! that was the worst crash I've seen at a NASCAR race live. The work they have put into saftey finally paid off, right there. As much as I didn't like the "car of today" it certianly was worth it after that, I won't bash it anymore.

They'll get it figured out.

That is amazing footage..head-on is the nasty..and they passed the test.

I've got it somewhere on an old NASCAR broadcast, when Dale Sr. and I think R Wallace in a meeting, told drivers to not correct if you break loose with the radial tires because it will send you into the wall when it hooks.

He reportedly was using a LaJoie seat - an amazing piece of aluminum fabrication. Randy was on Wind Tunnel last night and I believe he said that a custom Sprint Cup seat was only $3500. He is on a mission to educate all stock car drivers about protecting themselves.
