NASCAR is seeing decreases in fans attendance- is NHRA far behind?

Some is due in part to gas prices and whatnot.. but is there more to the story?

Nascar is suffering the same as the NHRA with respect to - all the cars are the same, all the cars are not really cars, they are tubes, wheels, a motor, and a fiberglass body shell that doesn't really resemble a stock car. When was the last time a funny car looked remotely like a car.. 1987? But even though the 80's there was still engineering and inginuity involved. Racers had the ability to try things in order to gain an advantage.

Nowadays everything is regulated, everything is the same, the same cars are racing, the cars look the same, the same people are winning.. and it's getting boring.. NHRA is going to suffer big time because not only is everything the same.. the parts are priced so high and brake so often, nobody can afford to race. Consequently you get 15 dragsters in Brainerd...

They need to diversify.. bring in better classes (Pro mod) phase out boring classes (PSB), bring in exibition classes (jet cars, top fuel harleys, wheelie cars, nostalgia cars), make funny cars look unique (like 70's and 80's cars), make it more affordable (how to do this I don't know).. And for goodness sake don't make the races shorter, (you see 25% less racing with the 1000' rule).

dont get me wrong, NHRA drag racing is still by far the best motorsport (quickest, fastest, most powerful) and it is racing in its most pure form, and I will be going to Brainerd every year as long as theyre in town. But it could be better. Lets hope they realize this and make the right choices.. ballsy choices too...

Shhhh the quiet secret is that since the first year after their chase started the numbers started to drop. Just like ours jumped in the regular season last year and fell after the countdown started. With this years numbers supposedly being up even more it will be interesting to see what happens.

Nascar has been seeing decreases in attendance for the last several years before gas prices went berserk. According to a couple of co-workers and NASCAR team members down here in the Charlotte area that I have talked to, the reason that attendance is falling is because of all of NASCARS mickey mouse template and engine rules that they continue to tweak on in order to make every brand "equal", (remember Pro Stock in the 70s ?). NASCAR fans aren't stupid and they don't like seeing thier favorite brand getting beat because of NASCARS handicaping The reason that Pro Stock is so popular now is because it's heads up run what you brung racing, may the best team and manufacturer win. I think that if the NHRA sees a loss in attendance it will be mostly because of high gas prices not policy or the countdown.
Thanks, Dale

When you sellout almost every race for the past couple of years there is only one way for NASCAR to go and the COT sure doesnt help.
