Muscle cars vs pony cars?

Is there a good definition of the difference between a muscle car and a pony car?

Relating to NHRA, are there classes of stock and super stock considered to be primarily muscle cars and others considered mostly pony cars?

Pony Car is a personal sized machine, Mustang, Camaro, etc.
Muscle Car is anything with a MAJOR horsepower upgrade. As Ken said, a full size car with a bigger engine qualifies.

A 68 Mustang 6 cyl. is a Pony Car, Same car with the 428, Muscle Car.

I have a different explanation. Muscle cars are for hot rodders; pony cars are for 17 year old high school chicks. Young females ARE the Mustang (base 6cyl) market; always have been.
