MOPAR P/S for 2012?

All I know is that if people were mad at Dodge for putting "Charger" on a 4-door what are they going to think about Dodge putting "Dart" on a front drive 4-banger that's a rebadged Alfa Romeo?

A good article on the history of the Dart:

Dodge Dart: The little Chrysler that could

Of interest is this line, for all of you that forget that Chrysler has been rebranding this car for decades:

"The Dodge Dart continued after 1976, in different forms; in Brazil, the Dart continued until 1981 with few differences, keeping the 1974-76 body style (see the last A-body Dart ever made, a Brazilian model.)

In Mexico, the Dodge Diplomat was sold as a Dart starting in 1980; it had both two and four door versions, with six and eight cylinders, using the Aspen front clip on the Diplomat body.

Full size Hubcaps shown below were typical of Mexican Dodge F and M bodies from 1978 to 1982; the hood ornament was present on every car, regardless of trim level. The Super Six was popular, with a three-on-the-tree manual shifter and no power accessories.

The Dart name continued through 1989, when the "E body Dart" (E body with 1987 LeBaron front clip) was dropped. The 1981 and 1982 Volare were exactly the same car as the 1980 Dart, except that they used a 1980 Volare (not Aspen) front clip.
"

MOPAR, without the injection of Fiat money, would be sitting on the sideline, ala Pontiac... At least its not that ugly-ass Fiat 500 getting the namebadge... :D

Charger, Stratus, Avenger, Now Dart? What do they do take the same EXACT car and use different styling?

Charger = Mercedes platform
Stratus/Avenger = Mitsubishi platform w/Hyundai engine
New Dart = Fiat platform/engine

My new Dodge 2500 - built 100% in Saltilla, Mexico

They all look the same give or take, and I don't know if I buy chrysler's imported from detroit slogan. Maybe it just appiles to chrysler

TBH Fiat taking over was the best thing that ever happened to Chrysler. Now they're producing cars that have great interiors and hopefully better reliability.

As far as the Fiat 500, it's only crime is having too high a price and too weak a motor. But it does make the females go, "Awww!" and somethings that's enough for some people. :D

I personally would like to see Alfa Romeo drop the Dodge V10 in the 8C and call it the new Viper. That would be bad assed. The 8C was/is goegeous, it just didn't have the steam to keep up with it's Italian bretheren ... that huge V10 could solve that.

It applies to 'home office'...Detroit. Just like home office for Honda and Toyota is Japan. A company's home office is where the majority of the employment and revene stays. Shop local...shop Detroit.

If you buy a Canadian built 300, the profits and revenue go to America even though the car was built in Canada. If you buy a US built Accord the car may be made here, but the profits and revenue go back to Japan.

Samuel, I sorta agree with you, but not entirely. On a relatively low profit to cost item like an automobile the "profits" tend to follow where the money is spent and the risk is taken.

If you assume that the marketing and the R&D all occur in the home office along with the back office admin ... then that is where you are right because those are the higher risk activities and they attract more profit (excluding admin, which are closer to covered costs).

Manufacturing, even contract manufacturing, attracts decent profit margin, but the risks ... and, as such, margins, can be contractually manipulated. Most of the time this manipulation is done to balance manufacturing skills of a particular local with its tax rates. Contract manufacturing is done in countries with highly skilled labor forces and high business tax rates.

In manufacturing most of the profits (e.g. leftover cash) go to locals where new manufacturing facilities are being built ... some gets returned to the ultimate investors (shareholders).

Our economy is unavoidably international. I just hope our country is managed in such a way that we get to maximize utilization of our resources .... be they people or natural resources.

I sure hope so because everyone talks about how bad the economy is here...the problem is look outside America, it's not much different.

Can we get back to pro stock here? This thread is starting to look like something from the Wall Street Journal.

The American worker still got paid to build them, which greatly improved the local taxbase, helped local retailers/businesses, property values, schools etc. The knock-on affect from an employer such as Honda or Toyota is huge for Americans ... even if some of the dollars trickle up to Japan. I know the Toyota plant in Georgetown, KY was and is a HUGE boon for Central Kentucky.

Back to Pro Stock, as long as Mopar stays involved at the factory level, I will be happy. Four door front drivers aren't my thing, but if that's what it takes to keep the factory involved, then so be it.

AYKM? Just go Camaro/Mustang/Challenger and be done with it. Retire Pontiac once and for all and go with those 3 models.

Thank you

Don't forget this screamer.
