Monroe Guest/Brandon Greco Crash.

I have always wondered what happens in these situations in drag racing. The Koretsky/Allen crash in Dallas a few years ago effectively ended the Reher and Morrison Pro Stock program. Is there a "gentleman's agreement" of sorts that if you wipe the other car out you will pay for it? Is there insurance available? Or is it just stuff happens ... you payed your money and you took your chances?

I doubt there are very many competitors in any class that could afford to replace their competitors cars in the event of such an incident. A wise man once said "never race a car you couldn't afford to push off a cliff" ... but the higher up the racing ladder you go, the less practical that maxim becomes.

If you line up against someone else, you accept responsibility for anything that happens. Not saying it doesnt suck, or that I wouldnt try and help someone else if I wrecked them but thats the way it is.

As for the Allen/KK crash. It turned out to be the best thing to ever happen to Reher-Morrison. Why you ask? B/C they gave up Pro Stock and started building and focusing on Pro Nitrous engines and now they are making more $$$ than ever.

how come NHRA tech didn't say anything about the tires BEFORE any runs were made? it's still the teams fault, but you can clearly see what the difference between a Hoosier and Good Year.

That would certainly be a question for me. I would think NHRA tech would be aware of any tire mfg concerns BEFORE the competitors were aware.

Very VERY good point.....and they just so happen to have their engines in the quickest nitrous car(s) on the planet.

Had dinner in Fla one night during a Super Chevy Show with a pro mod racer who sold race car insurance. He said coverage wasn't too bad for a race car until you got to "key on" insurance---and then it got ridiculous.

As I understand it, Joe has offered to replace Greco's car.

That would be an unprecedented gesture on his part.

The guy who posted, "don't run what you wouldn't roll of a cliff" is right on the money.

If Monden builds Greco a new car, (gratis) this story will have a decent ending.

have you watched the NHRA shows? who would have kids and cats to fill the t.v. shows with if JFR was suspended for any time? Do you really think that NHRA would do anything at all to JFR if anything was discovered wrong? Hell ,NHRA made the John Force rule after Force threw a **** fit when he left before the tree was activated at Vegas the one year. . . who did it benefit? one of the daughters in the A/fuel car a year or so later. . .

This has to be the Post of the Year!^:D

Well, he certainly has the capability to, Joe built Monroe's car (and several others in TAD, as well as mine and many others in TD and SC). Whether he has the financial wherewithal or the time and/or will to is something to which I cannot speak.

My question is this: how will the NHRA encourage manufacturers to give the NHRA recall notices so the tech inspection teams will know to be on the lookout for recalled equipment?

The only way I can see the NHRA penalizing manufacturers is if they mandate another manufacturers equipment (in this case Goodyear's tires). Would that be sufficient to encourage manufacturers to give recall notices, etc... to the NHRA?

I worked all day today and just got in and watched the replay on my DVR.

one thing I can see from my mini DVD vs. The replay.

the outside edge of Monroe's right tire was hazing around and about the 1000' mark.

I STILL will post, now need a cable I can't find.

Even though this is pretty much old news, some may find it interesting.

Doesn't matter if NHRA 'got the memo." The racer did, (As far as I know.) and chose to use them anyway.[/QUOTE]

You are wrong in your assumption. Hoosier admitted they never talked to me or sent me the memo. They called me Thursday to tell me they were mis-quoted by competion plus (imagine that). They said they told "Monroe's Crew Chief" They left out an important part because it stirs more stuff up it they can make the story more intersting. Joe has offered to replace Brandon's car and as of yet, they have not taken the offer. He has offered to replace Todd's as well. In my heart I believe Joe would have never run those tires if he really thought there was a problem. We will never know what the conversation between him and Hoosier was when they brought the tires back balanced knowing he was going to put them on the car but I suspect he was left with a feeling there were no issues.

You have to be impressed with Joe's offer to replace both cars. This is drag racing not a factory assembly line..........things happen. Luckily no one was hurt and now an offer has been made to compensate. Move on. :)

......You are wrong in your assumption.

I stand corrected then and I apologize.

I guess that's why I put the qualifier in there. Thanks for the update. Glad no one was hurt in this. That's the most important thing to me. We've lost too many good people the last few years.

One question that comes to mind is why did Hoosier took the tires and balanced them and bring them back if they thought there was a possible safety issue? If I am the manufacturer, and I feel that my product might have a safety issue, I don't bring the tires back to you and suggest that you don't run them. I CONFISCATE them and not let you run them. It's almost like they knew they had an issue, but didn't want to admit it, therefore letting the competitor take the risk.

Monroe: thank you very much for posting and shedding some light on this situation!
As David & others have stated, the most important/only thing that matters to me is that you & Brandon weren't injured or worse!
Thank you again & hope to "see" ya back out there soon!

Typical NHRA/Manufacturer covering their azzez......glad you posted, if you found anything I posted offensive, for whatever reason, I apologize. I spoke to you in your pit very briefly, and felt very bad for you.
