Martin Will Roll Off Ninth at The Rock

Harold Martin completed his qualifying effort for the Spring IHRA Nationals in Rockingham , NC in fine fashion on Saturday, posting his quickest elapsed time of 6.202 seconds with a top speed of 229.04 mph on his final attempt. This earned Martin’s ACDelco Pontiac the ninth starting position for Sunday’s final eliminations at Rockingham Dragway. Although certainly pleased with his solid showing during the first two days of racing at “The Rock”, at the conclusion of qualifying the Michigan runner immediately turned his attention towards improving his performance even further for race day.

“Our ACDelco crew came into this race with a number of goals. Obviously, the first was to qualify, and we’re happy that we did that. We also had another goal to make consistent laps, which we’ve also accomplished, so we’re feeling good about reaching some of the objectives we had set out for ourselves.

“However, one of our other goals was to run near our potential of what the racetrack would let us. Unfortunately, we have a bug in the car that we have yet to get our arms around, and, as a result, we have yet to make our best lap. We’ve been chasing it, but it’s one of those phenomena that happens in the middle of the run and then recovers to where everything is good again, making it hard to pin down. We ran a pretty good speed at 229 and change, so we’ll just have to work late tonight to see if we can find what we’re looking for, and make it ready for race day.”
