March Meet on Bang Shift Now

Anyone watching the Bangshift stream (great job btw), was probably horrified watching a 7.0 pro altered lose it in the lights, bang the wall and tumble down to the turn out, all the while the two "announcers" never saw it and went on happily yammering away about the next class. Suddenly the comment stream on Bangshift is freaking out about the crash and calling out the alleged announcers in the tower. NHRA on its worst day has nothing on those two.

Mike and Donnie were doing just fine, its hard to see the right lane top end from tower at Famoso.

FYI, Mike English is a member and friend here and Donnie Couch is a good buddy of mine. Play nice.

I have a question ... why is there 7.0 Pro and NE1 (7.60 Index)? Seems redundant, but I am sure there is a reason I am overlooking besides very similar looking cars with very similar powerplants running very similar indexes.

7.0 Pro was to give the guys that were on the quick side of NE1 an opportunity to go faster and to also pulls the reigns in on some of the rules. Unfortunately, the NHRA stepped in and you had door cars in the 7.0 class at the March Meet. The 7.0 organization is now also running a new "class" where they lowered the index into 6.90 or 6.80, I forget where it ended up...believe a new name also. There will be a 7.0 door car class, but run by another organization. Hope that helps.

I'm happy to report that Richard Phillips walked away without a scratch and could not say enough about the DJ Safety Equipment. I was in the Phillips pits shortly after the car came back and though the damage was significant, they're already planning a comeback.

With regards to the track announcers, what the hell do you want; a play-by-play, in car analysis with driver interview? Both John Madjasic and Bob Beck, who normally do the sportsman classes are exceptional at what they do. John is the regular track announcer at Famoso and Bob (from AAA Auto Club and Speed Scene Live) MC's many of the NHRA informal functions.

The fact that the race was so far behind schedule do to the rain and cold weather, track officials were doing everything they could to move the event along and get as much of the show in as possible to get back on schedule. The fact that both John and Bob both focus their attention back to the starting line and didn't catch on that there was a problem.

JR, your referring to Nostalgia Pro Comp. No website yet, but their on Facebook.

Thanks guys. I wasnt on the PA when the crash occured but yes it is very hard to see down track from the announcers side of the tower. Myself, I always try and wait till the cars have cleared the lights before I go to the screen for the times just because of this type of deal. Of course, that all goes out the window when a5.561 comes up on the board!:D

Mike,

As well as the BangShift coverage was, it was taken to the next level with you and Donnie in the tower. I always look forward to the March Meet and CHRR because I know it will be presented very well and interesting with the play by play AND informative info you both bring to the show.

Great job and thank you for the enjoyment.

Well said Pete. Mike is one of my favorite announcers out there.

Mike a little secret, I sometimes hear your voice at night in my head.;)

I have briefly stepped into the announcing room in the tower during March Meets and Hot Rod Reunions. It is very difficult to see the top end from there. The room has no furniture but a countertop on the wall facing the burnout box, a couple computer screens, the mics, a couple barstools and the windows. The announcers stand in a small circle facing each other and discuss things on air while they look out the one window facing the burnout box. The side windows facing the top end are partially blocked by the grandstands.

NE1 is center steer cars only.

I had a great frickin time at the March Meet in spite of freezing my face off Saturday. Sunday was fantastic warm chamber of commerce weather.
