Maple Grove- IHRA (18 Viewers)

To be honest, If Koretsky felt that Darryl is Bull$hit then why did he call him back when he initially told him that the track wasn't for sale. I know this is a hard pill to swallow but Darryl has a Lot of money and wants to offer another option for racers that are just fed up with NHRA's sandbox. This dude is the real deal. Since when has NHRA offered 2 nights of catered dinner for the racers and brings the racers bags of ice? Let alone provide some sort of alternative enertainment for the fans that want to take a little bit of a break from the racing so the kids aren't saying, can we go home now? His vision for this is to be a family oriented event and he's making it happen! NHRA is definitely gotten a wake up call and IHRA has their attention! Also, Larry Mcbride is bringing a bunch of guys with him to attend IHRA events. So is this Darryl guy serious? I say Definitely.

It appears that IHRA will only host big events at IHRA owned facilities. It will be interesting to see how well they remain in good condition once the money gets thin.
Might want to read some of the previous reponses where he has set aside and still contributes money just to fund this IHRA venture. His primary company is heavily involved in some really big money corporations contract wise. I highly doubt money is an issue or he wouldn't have taken this step.

Boy, I consider that bad news. The Koretsky's seem to have done a nice job with the track, especially with the advertising - since as far as I know, they have continued to have good crowds for the NHRA event.

So when the IHRA collapses after a year or two, what happens then to Maple Grove?
That's my fear for all the tracks they have bought. Many are very good facilities and losing them to real estate developers or some such would be a devastating blow to the sport.

He's got a lot of money - good for him. 1/8 mile racing at formerly great 1/4 mile tracks - bad for the sport. It's taken me 15 years to adjust to fuel cars shutting off short.....now he wants to shut them off at 660'? No thanks.

Informative article…not sure NHRA will agree to keep it on the schedule. Interesting times.
Never new Larry Morgan was that closely involved with IHRA management. Sounds like the Nhra can go ahead and run the Keystone Nationals in 2026. I bet their as suprised as everyone else.

IHRA and Darryl are legit at this point in time. He now has his hands in multiple motorsports series. While this is great for the short term, long term it’s probably not for the best. As long as Darryl is alive and healthy, the IHRA should thrive and be successful. I don’t think Darryl is going to make a profit doing all this without major sponsors. When something happens to him or maybe he changes his interests, it could all be gone because it’s not profitable to whoever takes over.

It’s great that there is somebody that loves motorsports so much to sink hundreds of millions of dollars of their own money into it.

Absolutely sickening. Maple Grove is 6 miles from us and I’ve been going to the Nationals since 1992, often Thursday-Sunday.
I grew up about 90 minutes from the track and used to go regularly, my friends have been blowing up my phone about this. They have nothing good to say if the NHRA race is canceled. I told them about the comp plus article where Larry Morgan said they are open to having the NHRA race there. Fingers crossed they can coexist. I did find it encouraging that he is looking at bringing back Atco.

Word is there is already enough money in a fund to fund all the now IHRA owned organizations and tracks for the next 10 years with money being added regularly. I hate to tell some of you, but your nothing but negativity bs is getting old. You don’t like 1/8 mile racing, that’s fine. Don’t like lower funded nitro cars that don’t run 330 every run, that’s fine. But you guys are the same ones who will get on here and b*+ch because we are losing tracks or the lack of interest in drag racing. We are lucky to have someone who is willing to make the investment Darryl is making in our sport when others are leaving. Give it a chance before you start talking about its failure! If you don’t like it, that’s completely fine, that’s your right. But do the sport, Darryl, IHRA, the racers excited to run IHRA, and the fans a favor and stop with the damn negativity! Why anyone who loves drag racing would post negative crap and try to hinder growth in our sport is something I can’t seem to wrap my head around.

Agree 100%. I live in Easton. Been going 35+ straight years. I'm sorry but 1/8 mile Top Fuel and Funnh Car doesn't excite me. Place was always packed for NHRA, I don't see that with IHRA. Hope I'm wrong and people still come, but IHRA has there fingers in to much stuff now. Being honest, don't see it lasting long. Probley be back to NHRA track in a couple years.

Read the article in Competition Plus. It's still to be determined whether the 2026 Keystone Nationals will go on as scheduled.

you know how to become a millionaire in drag racing? Start out a billionaire. I hope they make it and the money flows down like wine. I just have reservations.

Except this guy isn't just starting with a billion dollar stash and spending it. From what I've heard, yes he has a LOT of money, but he is continuing to generate more as time goes on with his core business. I don't love everything about what IHRA is doing, but they are doing a lot right. I'm not going to worry about the "what if" scenarios right now. Let's see how 2026 goes. If nothing else, between all the driver/crew shake ups in the big show, and the wild onslaught of activity with the resurgent IHRA, this could be a very good time for drag racing.

Some may disagree this, but I think the IHRA buying Maple Grove is bigger news than Vandergriff driving the JFR funny car.
I think IHRA announcing Maple grove turned PRI upside down! NHRA---Hey guys, we're gonna increase sportsman purses a tiny bit for you. IHRA---Hold my beer.🤣

This is not the 1st time NHRA has lost a major track. Back in the early 70's the AHRA stole OCIR and as I remember got it back about 5 years later. However those were different days and the sactioning body was less important than the actual track management. I have been a drag racing fan with some very limited driving since the early 60's. If I lived on the east coast this news would REALLY upset me for a couple of reasons. The main one would be chance of it becoming an 1/8 mile track with the probability of not seeing the top rank fuel cars. However since I live in California the concern I have is that the NHRA has really failed over this just as it has started loosing its connections with racers and fans. Examples the issue with racers over thethers, with the fans I have to get ACCURATE qualifying reports from Summit racing and accurate ladders that print well Drag Racing Bracket Bonanza. We need racers running the show before it is too late.
