Guess I'm completely out of the loop. In the Diehl thread it refers to this. Is this the two piece unit with breakaway studs? Are teams being forced into this with only two races to go?
For some teams, yes.Either go to a race, or spend some money on new parts.
Thank you - some good information. However . . . Google search for "TBS-500 manifold" yields nothing. Who makes this thing? And perhaps more importantly, what does it cost and can it survive the "pop off" when (or if) studs separate properly? The manifold rule already allowed the AJPE Stage III 25A-110, and JFR FAM1174 manifolds. For next year they are allowing everyone to use the TBS-500 manifold which is the 2 piece manifold where the top of it can pop off along with a single burst panel. The AJPE, and JFR are one piece manifolds that use multiple burst panels. I would imagine AJPE, and JFR probably have their own 2 piece manifolds in the works.
It's 2 piece manifold that has been run on some cars to test, it's held together with something like the aluminum blower studs that are designed to break. They showed it on tv during one of the races, I forgot who exactly makes it. Since it's a newly accepted part it will probably take a little time for it to show up on a internet search.
Wonder if the Manufacturer had any influence in NHRA mandating?
I would think that it's a 2 piece hog-out, a cast manifold, either 1 or 2 piece, would not be as strong. This thing is either cast in one piece and sawed in half or there is a LOT of CNC work!
Devil's Advocate - hogged out of two pieces of what . . . billet or a not-so-strong casting? Brief look I got on broadcast looked like the outside was not machined. Where are those photos?I would think that it's a 2 piece hog-out, a cast manifold, either 1 or 2 piece, would not be as strong.
A hog-out infers from solid material, it can be a billet but not necessarily, it could be a rough forging.Devil's Advocate - hogged out of two pieces of what . . . billet or a not-so-strong casting? Brief look I got on broadcast looked like the outside was not machined. Where are those photos?
