Lewis looking to stay consistent in Dallas

ENNIS, Texas - After two-straight semifinal finishes on the national event level, second-year NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Brandon Lewis and the Morrison Construction/TigerFlow Systems backed team will be looking for more of the same consistency during this weekend's Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at the Texas Motorplex just south of Dallas. Despite becoming one of the most consistent cars in the class this year, the team has yet to make it to a final, but hopes to change that this weekend.

The event marks the one year mark for the team from Broken Arrow, Okla., in the Top Alcohol Dragster category. Prior to moving to the dragsters, Lewis, 22, competed in the Top Alcohol Funny Car category. The team then made a deal with former World Champion Tom Conway to purchase his A/Fuel (injected-nitromethane) Dragster that won the 2005 World Championship. The team raced under his tutelage last season and have ventured on their own this year with Lewis' father Dave and Tony Volturo calling the tuning shots.

"We're really hoping to finally break through and get our first win this weekend," said Lewis. "This race will make it one year for us in the A/Fueler. We've learned a lot, but there is a heck of a lot more to learn. We made some pretty decent laps here last year, so hopefully we can go back on that data and combine it with what we've learned this year."

"The forecast has it being pretty cool this weekend," explained Lewis. "We definitely have more data and good runs in warmer conditions, but this is part of the game, so we need to learn what it takes to make this car run fast in good air at a divisional track. We just need to go out there on Friday and make a good, clean hit so we can go from there. If we can do that, we can get after it on Saturday, and if it shakes or smokes the tires, just make an adjustment."

Not only is this weekend's event one of the closest to home for the Oklahoma based team, but is a major market for team sponsor TigerFlow Systems.

"TigerFlow has a major office in Dallas, so we definitely want to do good for them," stated Lewis. "Monroe Guest and Marvin Yoder will be with our team this weekend, so we would definitely love to get them in the winner's circle first hand. Another sponsor of ours, ATTA Tank is just a few miles from the track as well, so we'd love to do well for them, too. Without their support and the help we get from Morrison Construction, Lucas Oil and Unifirst, it would be hard to race at this level. It's going to be a slugfest, because there are some really good teams here in Division 4. We're looking forward to it."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
