LE Tonglet vs. Steve Johnson in U.S. Nationals opener (1 Viewer)

INDIANAPOLIS – LE Tonglet will be attempting to extend two win streaks Monday as he opens defense of his 2010 U.S. Nationals Pro Stock Motorcycle victory when the curtain goes up on the 57th race at Lucas Oil Raceway.

Tonglet put the Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing Suzuki GSXR into the No. 4 slot Sunday on his final run of 6.947 seconds at 190.38 mph and squares off against Steve Johnson (13th, 7.022 at 190.14 mph) in the opening round.

The reigning Full Throttle Series champion also takes a two-race win streak into the regular-season finale as he tries to keep his hold on a top-three seed going into the six-race playoffs. He begins the day in third place.

“We were able to pick up the (qualifying) pace on almost every run . . . and that’s good,” Tonglet said. “We’ve figured out how to get down the track in the first 600 feet and now we need to work on getting down the last 720 feet. We have been struggling a bit with the tune-up.”

With cooler temperatures forecast for eliminations, Tonglet added, “we’ll have to throw away the stuff we learned (today) and start all over again.”
