LE Tonglet rebounds with third starting slot for Route 66 Nationals (1 Viewer)

OLIET, Ill. – LE Tonglet eliminated any qualifying dilemmas Friday evening with an impressive 6.980-second, 189.95-mph run that put the Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle Suzuki GSXR into the third starting position.

And that’s where he will begin Sunday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway.

The reigning Full Throttle Series champion began qualifying with a cautious 7.038 at 188.81 mph that was seventh-quickest of the session, all but assuring himself he wouldn’t be relegated to the sidelines as he was last Sunday.

“We are doing a lot better than we did at Norwalk,” said a smiling Tonglet after his final quarter-mile qualifying lap Saturday. Everybody (on the team) was a lot happier and not on the edge like we were last week. We do need to improve our 60-foot times before eliminations, but we should still get down the race track all right.”

He races Angie Smith (No. 14, 7.075 seconds at 183.64 mph) in the opening round.
