The qualifying pace picked up Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and LE Tonglet got into the swing of things, running his best time of 7.005 seconds at 188.67 mph to move into the 10th Pro Stock Motorcycle starting berth for Sunday’s Big O Tires Nationals.
Tonglet’s times were fairly consistent, just not quick enough to put him into the top half of the lineup. He drove the Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing Suzuki GSXR to quarter-mile times of 7.019 and 7.035 seconds on Friday and added a 7.007 on his final Saturday attempt.
“We changed motors before our last run, but the weather got hotter and we weren’t able to run better,” Tonglet said. “We’ll see what happens on Sunday.”
The reigning Full Throttle Series champion would like to move from seventh to fifth place in points before the season ends at Pomona, Calif., in two weeks. He squares off against Steve Johnson (No. 7, 6.981 at 191.19) in the first round of eliminations.
