Las Vegas Fox Coverage Earns Highest TV Rating Since at Least 2002 (1 Viewer)

Great news and following the NASCAR race couldn't have hurt.

FS1 earned an average of 1.292 million viewers for Sunday's @NHRA #DensoNats from Las Vegas, the most-watched NHRA event since at least '02.

Martinsville Overnight TV Ratings UPDATE: A downturn in ratings has followed NASCAR from big FOX to Fox Sports 1. NASCAR Sprint Cup racing from Martinsville (VA) earned a 2.2 overnight rating on FS1 Sunday afternoon, down 12% from last year (2.5) and down 42% from 2014 on the FOX broadcast network (3.8). The double-digit drop is especially notable considering that last year's race aired opposite the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight. This year's race had much lighter competition from the NBA on ABC (1.7) and Opening Day baseball on ESPN (1.4) and ESPN2 (0.7). Not surprisingly, the 2.2 is the lowest for the spring Martinsville race since at least 2002. Overnight ratings are different than total viewers. The ratings are based on total people viewing. This past Sunday had more viewers but a lower overnight because it was a smaller share of the total viewing audience even though more viewers viewed it this year. Last year's audience was a higher % of the total.

And this was partly because of the move to FS1 for that race. Listen to NASCAR radio a lot and the core fan base is irate with NASCAR for moving this race off of the big network. The working class south and Midwest have been screaming at show hosts all week how NASCAR screwed them and they had to miss watching a race because they do not get FS1 on their system and "could not afford" to pay an upcharge.

Don't know how many actual people were affected or felt that way, but the message was LOUD and clear at least from those that complained and there was a steady parade for days.

I was listening too, and I couldn't help but think, just buy one less cooler with number 88 all over it and you could afford Fox Sports 1.
