Racers have always been my heros...but I think it's very important to acknowledge and honor a true hero and racer...Tony Lukesh, he is the one that got Mark out of the fire. Thank you Tony, and God Bless you

So sorry to hear this, Jenn. I know this has been a tough year for you.

I believe it's in an old copy of Don Garlits' biography I've got somewhere that he explains that the danger from that much burning isn't always initially, but in the following weeks as the kidneys try to keep up.

I got this from the abqdragway website.

Obituary

MARTINEZ -- Mark A. Martinez went to be with our Lord and Savior on September 12, 2006 in Phoenix, AZ due to complications associated with the injuries he suffered when his car crashed during a race at the Albuquerque National Dragway on September 2, 2006. Mark was 34 years old. Mark was an excellent mechanic, engineer, musician and race car driver. He is survived by his father, John D. Martinez; his mother, Linda J. Martinez; his sister, Jonlyn Martinez Loveless; his brother-in-law, Brett R. Loveless; his nieces, Julia and Olivia; and all of his wonderful extended family and friends. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. Mark, we will miss your handsome face, your talented, strong hands and your beautiful spirit. A Rosary will be held for Mark on Friday, September 22, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be held for Mark on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church located at 12500 Carmel Ave. NE.

Some of the racers are going to take their cars to the funeral procession on open bed trailers.

Several of the local racers had pulled out of the Dallas race to attend the funeral.
