John Carey trailer

During the ESPN3 broadcast they mentioned the John Carey trailer from 1989, here it is

In the late eighties, there was a top fuel team from the West coast that ran a converted intercity bus for a rig. the starboard side of the bus popped open a lot like that, except I don't think the door panel was that large.

Can't quite remember the name of the team. Something like "The Mob" or similar. I think they told me it was quite a bit cheaper license-wise because it was considered an "RV" and was tagged as such.

Anyone else remember them?

I do remember "The Mob" from about 1986-87... a guy by the name of Ed Moore drove the car. They had a t/f dragster and if I remember correctly, they also had a fuel alterd for awhile

Yes, it was "The Mob" team that had that transporter. It had a hoist that picked the car up by the roll cage and swung it inside. Very unique. Same team that ran that very cool AA/FA.

Yep, that was them. Fun folks to talk with. They seemed like they were having a ball.

Yup, Carey at times ran 3 cars back in the 80's.

Correct, there was a hoist that would pick the cars up and swing them in and hang them on the wall. He carried 3 dragsters in it. One was diesel powered exhibition car.

There were times he carried 3 top fuel cars. Two of his own, plus the Mr. Boston car. The diesel dragster was , unfortunately, short lived. It was very cool to watch run.

I remember getting a cup of track coffee every morning and standing by their trailer just to watch them unpack that puzzle box in Pomona. Thanks for posting the pics.

The diesel was quiet due to the turbos, but was still interesting. What John said at the time about diesel being a good torque fuel was later proven by the teams at Le Mans.
