Yates Runs Best of 6.768 Seconds in Tight Pro Stock Field

BRAINERD, Minn. (8/12/06) -- Jim Yates was one of eight Pro Stock drivers Saturday who qualified with 6.76-second runs in the tightly-bunched starting lineup for Sunday's Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway.

Yates posted a time of 6.768 seconds at 202.61 mph in the Wiley X Eyewear Pontiac GTO to secure 10th place. He races Kurt Johnson (No. 7, 6.767 seconds) in the first round.

There were seven drivers (from third-place Larry Morgan to No. 9 Mike Edwards) with 6.76-second times, including four with 6.767 runs..

Yates enters this event fourth in NHRA POWERade Series points.
