And I'm betting it will be a major on one car--and a minor on 4 others. And all are well trained enuff to to make sure they sneak all of the sponsorships in whenever the camera is on. " I had to tie my Ford -Brand Source-Triple A-Castrol- Traxxas shoe lace-I'm sorry-what was the question?"

A good-looking blonde with a famous last name and a huge fan base or a guy in his 40's? That's what a sponsor's going to look at it.

It may sound harsh, and it's NOT meant as a slam against Larry (I like the guy as much as anyone), but companies have to go with the person they deem as more marketable.

Sad....but True! However as Marketable as Ashley Force was suppose to be, she didn't open up all these Corporate Doors I kept hearing about.

if david beckham drove for JFR, DSR, AJR, MLR, or KALITTA the corporate
doors would still not open - NHRA's diversity is only as effective
as the audience it reaches, which is sadly very little.

When my friends and co-workers found out I'm a drag racing fan nearly all of them said, "Why do you like cars that just go down a straight line?"

I told them "for one thing I can go up and meet the drivers which you can't do at a NASCAR race, and secondly I don't think you can bring you car to a NASCAR track and ring it out like you can do at the dragstrip."

The thing about NHRA and pretty much any drag racing is, you either "get it or you don't." Sadly the "don't get it" crowd seems to be the larger of the two. :(

My response begins: If you can still turn, you're not going fast enough. That usually gets a chuckle.
Then I explain that each time a pair of cars comes to the line, it is like the last play of the seventh game of a seven game series and the game is won or lost on that play. Each time a racer pulls to the line, everything they can do better be done. Lose and go home. The intensity of the round by round competition makes up for NASCAR's patented Big Wreck in my book.
I tell friends, when I invite them to their first big race, you may not like it but you will be impressed. Some of 'em like it!
Keep the faith.
Cheers,
Ed

Sorry inside the r/c hobby joke... ;)

On the other side.. THIS will bring alot of new faces to tv for drag racing... have to wait and see about the attendance..but tv for sure will pick a few more viewers up....

Billy, you obviously have more experience in the Sponsor/marketing dept. Than most of us here. but we have been hearing those statements for years! This will introduce Drag racing to a whole new Demo.....Same old...I'll believe when I see it!

I don't know about bringing new people to the NHRA.

BUT.

Will it bring people out to the local r/c drag strips with their RTR cars?

Making me think twice about selling my track.

I didn't see anything on NHRA.com!

If you had read further down...

"25-year-old Brittany Force will start the season as test driver in the BrandSource Top Fuel dragster utilizing the JFR-built Ford Boss 500 nitro motor that powers the JFR Funny Cars. Later in the season, the team will evaluate the three-rail dragster and see what the future holds for Brittany."
