<P> (8-04-08) Martin, MI –It was a tough weekend for Mike Janis and his crew at the IHRA Torco Racing Fuels Northern Nationals. Two wounded bullets in qualifying caused for some late nights for the team but the veteran
crew consisting of Mike Janis, Mike Janis Jr., Steve Hermann, Kevin Peters, and Joe Janis were up to the task.

"All of our problems this weekend were self inflicted," said team owner and driver Mike Janis. "Just dumb things. We're just happy were able to make the field in front of all of the fans here at Aeroquip Alley". (Aeroquip Alley is the name of US 131's racing surface.) "My guys worked real hard and I'm very proud of them. I don't care if you have the best equipment in the world or how good of a driver you are, your nothing without the guys behind you".

Janis' Saturday night run of 6.065 at 236.55 earned him last man standing honors and five bonus points. The run placed Janis third on the final qualifying sheet pairing him with the number 11 qualifier, Pat Stoken.

Janis easily defeated a tire shaking Stoken and advanced to the quarter–finals to face Thomas Patterson. Patterson, who qualified 15th, defeated Tommy D'Aprile in round one. This one was all Janis from wire –to-wire. Janis took a huge hole shot lead and motored to the finish line with a 6.094 at nearly 234 miles per hour.

Janis' second round win over Patterson moved Janis into the semi-finals against, new nitrous equipped Pro Mod Record Holder, Mike Castellana. Castellana made his way to the semis by defeating Carl Spiering and Scott Cannon. This race was over before it started as Janis jumped the gun posting a -.018 red lite reaction time. Castellana took the win with a 6.113 and was ripe for the picking but Janis' performance fell off as well in that round as he could only muster a 6.15 elapsed time.

While Castellana held lane choice for the round the Janis team felt they had enough to take out the nitrous standout. "Each round we progressed on our tune up and I thought we could win this round," said crew chief Mike Janis Jr. "Dad went red and that happens sometimes, but after we got back to our pit area we were wondered why our performance fell off that round. According to the computer we lost a cylinder early in the run. We found that when we pulled the cap on the magneto that somehow our rotor was just lying in there loose. That's just the way things have been for us this year".

Mike Janis and his team will have a few weeks off before they head to Tulsa Oklahoma for the next stop on the IHRA Nitro Jam Tour.
