Janis Exits IHRA Knoll Gas Nitro Jam Spring Nationals In Quarter Finals

Rockingham, NC – Heading into the IHRA Knoll Gas Nitro Jam Spring Nationals with no full quarter mile passes on their new car one would think a team would be a bit cautious. Not Mike Janis and his crew. After some impressive 1/8 - mile passes in San Antonio; Janis' crew was chomping at the bit to see what their new Dan Page Race Cars Chassis could do in the quarter.

The team's confidence in their new car was rewarded quickly; on their first full track run Janis posted a 6.039 elapsed time at 235.39 miles pre hour, good enough to take the provisional pole. While the first pass was impressive it was Friday night's run during the IHRA's famed Night of Fire that had everyone stand up and take notice. Under what would be considered mediocre weather conditions Janis laid down an impressive 5.986 pass at just over 240 miles per hour. Janis run was less than 5 hundredths off of the IHRA Elapsed Time Record. The pass held Janis throughout qualifying as the number one qualifier and remained as low elapsed time and top speed of the event.

Kevin Peters, the Janis team's Head of Research and Development, was not surprised by the performance of the team's Jan-Cen Motorsports Powered entry. "There is so much technology in this car and not nearly enough time on it to prove what she can do. The performance this weekend is just the tip of the iceberg," said Peters. "Once we settle in on a race day tune up I think people will be shocked at what this cars is capable of."

Race day saw Janis, the number one qualifier, paired in round one with, former World Champ and number nine qualifier, Mike Castellana. In a match up you'd only see at an IHRA event Janis' supercharged Firebird defeated the nitrous equipped Firebird of Castellana with a 6.062 to 6.151. The win over Castellana gave Janis lane choice in round two over another nitrous equipped entry, that of Pat Stoken. Stoken qualified his 68' Camaro in the number five spot with what could be the fastest IHRA legal nitrous pass ever, a 6.066. Stoken dismissed of Thomas Patterson in round one.

At the hit it was Janis with the reaction time advantage but both cars went in to early tire shake. It was Janis who caught traction first but as Janis continued to peddle the burst panel to let go. Stoken then passed a coasting Janis just feet before the finish line.

"It's tough to watch a guy go around you like that," said driver and team owner Mike Janis. "We know we had the best car all weekend but we still need to work on our race day set up. I'm real happy with where we are at right now. I think we're in the top five in points and we have already hit some goals that we've set for ourselves as a team."

Next up for Janis is the Motor City Nationals presented by GM performance Parts and Heritage Newspapers From May 23rd-25th. Janis is the reigning event champion.
