Interesting NHRA Classifieds

George Bryce has been trying to sell "Big Red" on FB for quite a while. 105K seems like a pretty solid deal for a big rig and fully outfitted trailer, kinda surprised he hasn't sold it yet.

One of the world's greatest crew chief/owner/tuners was selling his car on my local cl.

850K is a lot of miles. I realize diesels can run forever (especially if maintained properly), but who wants to buy a rig with all that kind of wear and tear?

For that style trunk, I didn't think 850k miles is all that bad. Don't they usually go 2 or 3 million miles?

I'd say that price mostly covers the trailer.
At 850k miles, I'd want to see some maintenance records.

The 850k miles could be a deal breaker for me.
Don't they normally do an in frame engine rebuild around 600k miles? Has it been done?

The rest of the trailer looks to be in great condition but I would like to see the exterior images of the trailer plus maintenance records. first.

"Only stolen once!"
On the subject of old trucks- The driveshaft shop I deal with was telling me how 1/2 the work he now does is "re chassis' ". The new trucks with emissions are unreliable and expensive to operate. Owner operators are opting to buy a new complete rolling chassis for $80k and swap your cab (and VIN) over + keep rolling.

Do you have any details about which companies are offering this deal for $80k?

They are called "gliders", generally an older model cab and chassis with all new parts. However, the glider manufacturers (there are many) will soon be having a reckoning with government regulations that might crush their business. Anything using DEF/Regen system which all the newer stuff is somewhat unreliable regardless of brand. There are exceptions, but our experience has been horrible.

If you look on any diesel forum (Cummins, Duramax, etc) the first mod people suggests to do with a new truck is do a DEF/EGR delete. You'll have a perfectly reliable engine and your mileage might actually be better than stock. That's what I would do if I bought a diesel truck.

Here in Nevada, we have the same smog laws and testing that California does. A DEF delete is not legal here, and the vehicle would not be able to be titled in this state. There are also warranty and resale considerations. No one wants to pay $50K plus for a brand new diesel truck, and instantly void the warranty. Dealerships are also not supposed to accept vehicles with modified emissions systems on trade in, and it may also be illegal to resell that vehicle in a private party transaction.
