There is an artical on DRO about using individual cylinder timing on a nitro motor.

I have a question about the article. It states that if you where able to adjust the timing on each cylinder you would be able to set all the pistons at the same height.
I always thought the piston height was adjusted more to balance fuel and air delivery to each cylinder? Would being able to adjust the cylinder timing make it where you could run all the pistons at the same height as stated?
I know we have some tuners on here who might be able to shed some light on this and other thoughts of how it could be used.
 
The idea is to fire the spark plugs so peak cylinder pressure is 18 degrees ATDC. With individual timing, the can fire appropriately for the air/fuel mixture in each cylinder, which differs. I am guessing they still use different rod lengths and dome heights.
 
Yea I think NHRA is worried it would be used for traction control. But I still think the different piston height would need to stay.
